Setting the Kit Up.

here's mine late 80's/early 90's Pearl Export kit. this was taken a year ago March. a few things have changed since then (mostly in terms of the room and i've since added a DW snare) but it's mostly here.

I've got a late 60's Ludwig kit that's not currently setup. it's smaller and less versatile sounding. it gets brought out only when i need that 60's Ludwig sort of sound.

cheers,
wade

Good looking kit. What kind of snare is that?

thanks! i've been putting that kit together for almost 20 years now. ;-)

that snare is a mid-60's (keystone badge) Ludwig in gold sparkle. it's in great shape although the bearing edges are a little rounder than i tend to prefer. remarkable tuning range on it although it has the propensity for being a little tubby sounding at times.

it's very tempermental and susceptible to humidity level....it seems that about 1/2 the year it sounds great and 1/2 the year it sounds kinda lifeless.

i'll try to get my vintage Ludwig kit setup this weekend and post a pic or two of it.

cheers,
wade

I tend to like mine pretty flat, but slightly tilted so I can still easily hit them. I'd post pictures, but I'm not allowed to yet.

here's a couple pics of my "new" setup from a little jam session on Sunday. my new crash is the 2nd from the right, then i got a new cymbal stand so i can have all my cymbals up at the same time, haha. sorry for the crap quality, it's from my cell phone.

Nice kit dude. :)

Do you use a laser-level and a T-square to se those cymbals and toms up? :p

hell no! a real man doesn't need leveling equipment, just eyeball it. ;)

thanks man.

Cool pics Zed...got any of where you have your pedals positioned? (you are using a double kick pedal aren't you?) I seem to have trouble getting my left kick and my hat pedal in a spot I feel comfortable moving to.

Get a 2-legged hit-hat stand.

here's a pic of how my pedals are set up, it's not very recent, but i don't think ive really changed my pedal arrangement. the kit is not set up right now so i can't take a new one. anyway, i had trouble finding a good placement too, but then i got the Iron Cobra 2-leg stand and it allowed me to place it exactly how i wanted. i'll try to take a picture tomorrow from a top view.

You should eyeball your way to the music store and buy some man-sized toms! :p

haha yeah no shit, i wanna get a 16" floor tom to add on, but PDP doesn't seem to make em in my color. Mass Music sells the single FS toms, so i might just have to get a Cherry/Black fade mis-match style.

fucking drums man....theres ALWAYS somethin more to buy. damn dirty money-pit

Yeah that Mapex kit I'm looking to buy has a 16" & 18" floor tom. I love it. Big toms rule. :D

No man, that helps some. I think you guys pointed out my main problem...the hat stand's legs are getting in the way. It's the freebie that came with the kit, and might need to be my next replacement.

Thanks man. And Greg...:D

better than the overpriced DW junk. ;) it's super smooth, silent, and it is adjustable in ways i never thought possible. you can set it up to suit you perfectly, the feel is amazing.

That's nice, but that's pretty pricey. I use a PDP 2-legger that has every adjustment you need, it withstands very regular live beatings, and it was only 60 bucks. :)

Oh and Dogman, get a drop-clutch. Very handy for double-kicking on the fly when you need the hat closed.

Cool..thanks. I've seen the drop clutch in MF, and thought about getting one.

man that was almost pornographic from post 1 till now alas I don't have no cameroonie so no pics from me but man that was exciting with some inspirational setups to say the least

BlueGroove is that a dog's dinner tray on your kit setup??? & what is the pedal on the right of your hihats controlling/hitting??

those drums are pretty tilted, you fag.

what a lame attempt at an insult. c'mon man you'll have to do better than that

I'd demosnstrate the proper way but I'd only show you for the foul mouthed ?thing? that you are

"you fag" LMAO I'll bet you're about 14 with a seriously spotty complexion & you have been seriously bullied in school
