I own a Tascam 2488 portastudio (I’ve had it for a couple of years, and I am very happy with it), but despite the fact that I have made backup CD’s for all of my work, I never had the need to reload any of the material. Recently, I have had the need to do so, and the machine will not load up the tracks (it tries, but eventually gives up and locks on ERROR 01, which has forced me to shut it down cold).
Looking for advice, I keep getting the classic “Don’t do it! You should only backup through your computer.” Well, it’s a bit late now, so here is my question:

Is there a way to load the backup discs onto my pc, and then load the data onto my 2488?

It would seem logical that one could perform such an operation, and I am desperate to retrieve years of work. If not, does anyone know anything else I can try?

Thank You Very Much:confused:

Make sure you're loading the discs back in in the same order your burnt them.

Also, you can try to transfer the data from your discs to the PC, and then use the USB to load everything from your PC to the 2488. Problem is, I don't think your PC will recognise the 2488 data on the disc. I might be wrong though, so it might be worth a try.

hey psych1, just wondering what you think about that 2488? i was gonna drop $600 on the Tascam dp1fx-8 track, which would work for me. then i saw the 2488MK11 for like $899 and went, hey--24 tracks. here's a dumb question maybe, can you actually keep 24 original tracks on the thing---uncompressed, for a mixdown? i realize there's only 19 actual faders. but still, the price difference for being able to dream up different parts (i don't have to shuffle around or punch in a lot) is great.

anyway--i was tired of waiting on Vista drivers for my ill-fated Maudio soundcard. and thought about getting one or the other Tascam........ :) thx..

I think it's a great machine.....Yes, you can use all 24 tracks...there are 19 faders because channels 13-24 are paired up as stereo tracks (2 mono tracks, but they can't be seperated).

nice song there--what color is your world? did you master that? gawd i wish i could master drums---and rhythms like that. my music is of tropical nature with conga's, steel drums, "sting" like kit sounds on my bigger songs and a lil country.

i'm always trying to find a way to flush out the rhytmn part....but end up with me and the guitar holding court.

anyway, thanks for the help.;)
