The amp will love what you tell it to love!

But in all honesty, I'd just try futzing with different mid settings - even leaving the bass and treble alone. Just as a test - you don't need to go retracking everything on account of my one comment. I've just never liked that particular sound - if you're okay with it, then that's the most important thing, really.

I don't mind the sound. On it's own, at the start, i think it sounds quite good. But when everything else comes in, it just doesn't sit right.

Exactly. And your amp. Very clean sound. However, it is also quite mid-rangey, so that also makes it sound DI'd.

I agree..the guitar seems to be right there next to you but the drums sound like they are farther away or like you said earlier "they need to be bigger to match the guitars."

Yeh, and the vocals. Once you get the mp3s, i'll have a go. I doubt i'll be able to do much though, without way over processing it...

btw just out of curiosity...i was hoping to get your very honest opinion of my voice on the latest track...there is always room for improvement for these kinds of things until we hit out respective ceilings of "this is as good as you will be able to sing" ...so i am curious as to when i sit (or stand) as of right now....

Thanks. Emm, I'm not really a vocal guy. I think there is definitely room for improvement. I think it all depends on what you want.

I don't think that sounds like your true voice, i could be wrong, i've never heard you, but it sounds kind of put on, especially "what i've been waiting for"(sound quite unusual). No offence if it is how you talk, hah. I think it's a little too jittery for my liking. And if you hold the notes a little longer, it may sit better with the guitar...

I think you should sing in the accent/voice that you have, ie me singing with a scottish accent, or whatever. I hate singers who try to sound like someone else when they sing.

yeah thats not really my true voice...i was trying to sing from the back of my throat/mouth...i guess thats just it ive been trying to find my voice because the reality of it is ive never really sang anything original...i dont really think the majority of the singing on this track is very profound...but i am fond of the way my voice sounds at the end of the song...i dont really know.

i guess i am just really keen on finding something that isnt typical or whatnot...but you are right...its deffinitally not my voice, in that light i am trying to sound unusual....

i try to keep in mind a quote by muddy waters along the lines of "i could never sing verywell...i just listen to what my guitar tells me to."

Clearly that isnt too appaent in this song but i guess ill just keep trying to find it...

Yeah i thought that. Trying to be unusual is good, but difficult. Only very occasionally will you stumble across something great, imo. That's not to say you shouldn't try, I love trying to be unusual, but focus first on trying to be good, and then once you are, it'll be easier to find what sounds unusual but good(Pink Floyd).

There are obviously exceptions to this(Johnny Rotten - Sex Pistols, couldn't sing for shit, but it was great), but generally this is the best way, imo.

Well i am now a bit closer to a good recording....before i start...PandaMonk I am very soory i never sent you those tracks...i started to put the all together (well take them all apart) and it turned into a major ordeal mostly credited to my incompetence...but i apologize i dont htink you will be getting those tracks....

i especially feel terrible because of all the wonderful feedback you have given me about my recordings...

...well anyway for you and the rest of you i have put up a new song...it is called Folk Funk...it has no lyrics....but i used a condenser mic as a room mic in addition to the other drums mics i would normally use...

well please please give me some feedback...thank you so much.

Don't worry about it. I just fancied having a go, but if it's too much work, then it really doesn't matter.

The new track sounds really good, except for the peaking. You gotta sort that out. When recording you gotta make sure it doesn't peak, and the same when mixing. If you want more volume, use a compresser/limiter(don't over-do it though).

Well what i dont understand is in cubas the track sounds fine as far as clipping goes...then when i exported the track it also sounds alright...but then when I put it up on purevolume it sounds terrible and clips all over so.........

Maybe it's just purevolume. Maybe their peak threshold is lower than yours. I'd suggest lowering the volume a few dB for the track you upload.

So someone suggested in my profile feedback that I am wasting my time...posting sloppy and ill timed recordings. Saying that I should focus on learning how to play my respective instruments before I waste their time with recordings.

So I pose this question to you all...am I wasting my time? Am I not getting valuable experience by recording myself as I get better at my respective instruments? Is there no value in creating a time line of musical ability to look back on and recognize my progress?

Keep in mind I know that i am not a very good musician, but in that same breath I tell you that I practice daily. And fundamentally what is the difference in practicing on the drums and practicing in Cubase??

I agree... I have seen huge progress in the few weeks I've spoke to you, especially in recording quality. Ok, it might not be good enough to release yet, but like you said, you're practicing and getting better. Fuck whoever said that! They obviously have no clue! They're just an arrogant bastard, whose recordings probably don't sound half as good as yours, if they even know how to record!

As well as getting valuable experience hearing what you're playing and knowing how to progress. You're also building your knowledge of recording, and will, no doubt, upgrade your equipment as time goes on. This little home studio of yours may even turn into a business of it's own...
