Ghost and Golden…

I respect your opinions and input as always but…

First of all the issue is not about legitimate differences of opinion when it comes to MCI. It’s about a member pushing and provoking conflict for sport... a need born out of a festering self-inflicted wound that he blames some of us for. Short of that his greatest priority is image maintenance, and thus he will continue to attack and try to impeach knowledgeable, discerning members until the only members left are those that will buy into his charade. The olive branch has been tried by many, including me… he’s not interested.

Your perspective is fine if you are only concerned with how the forum impacts you. Part of the difference in our perspectives is that I have always had a big brother personality… no not big brother as the government, but big brother as in “Leave my little brother/sister alone or I will kick your ass.”

We may like to participate in discussions here because of our backgrounds in recording and fondness for analog, but many come here knowing almost nothing. New members don’t know who to put on their ignore list, or who to listen to and not listen to.

You may also see MCI as a legitimate analog enthusiast, in which case IMO you are among the few that he has successfully mislead. Your image of him is the one he has presented, so the biggest problem you see with him is that he’s a “Pro” on a home recording forum. When in fact he is a phony. Being a phony is not a capital offence on the web if only that were all, but add to that his wanton attacks on other members, including you over several years and… well, that’s a problem. However, IMO it’s a bigger problem when a community doesn’t respond.

Because of the things that have made us the people we are we don’t see the situation with the same eyes. I am still extraordinarily idealistic for my age and the things I’ve seen “Doctor my Eyes.” and perhaps try to make this forum more than it is… or do I? Again, it’s a matter of perspective.

This to me is a place as any other place… like in the old days where we would get together in person and discuss our interests in a club or pub or what have you.

If this is a community there is going to be a criminal element and crime statistics, even if that is only someone toilet papering your trees (figuratively speaking). But some are much more mean spirited and do greater harm than you think. Because they do no great harm to you is not a good enough reason to ignore them.

There is a fine line between live and let live and “"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”

You may be peacemakers or you may just not care, I dunno. Those two things can be easily confused. You may also have thicker skin, but that is a double-edged sword… you aren’t as vulnerable to mean-spirited trolls, but you may also be insensitive to those that are.

Your peacemaking sentiment is admirable only if it comes from a position of strength, sensitivity and a feeling of responsibility to the communities, Internet or otherwise, that you choose to be a part of. Indifference is none of these things.

You may feel the way you feel because you, me and about everyone else here has gone off at one time or another… you don’t feel able to cast a stone. I can understand that, but this is not “One of us” having a bad day… this is an individual that has consistently returned again and again as his user accounts are banned, to attack and sabotage the good work done here.

He is a power rapist that thinks himself abused when his victim has the nerve to fight back and scratches his face. He only sees his own blood and feels his own pain.

The town folk in a Clint Eastwood western that walk about with their heads down ignoring the town bullies aren’t peacemakers. Nor are the helpless future people in Orson Welles “The Time Machine.” They are people that don’t believe they have power to affect change in their circumstances and those of their neighbors, and in both stories don’t know that they should care about their neighbor’s circumstances. And just as in real life the one that does care about his neighbor’s circumstances is seen as the unreasonable rebel rouser. Art imitating life, to be sure.

In the social sciences we say, “You are who you talk to.” Perhaps we are partly the product of the movies we’ve seen, and hopefully we relate and connect to the right characters. Seen any good ones lately?

I’m afraid in the case of MCI he must have watched “Dirty Harry” (Or as I call it, “The feel good movie of 1971”) and found his soul mate in this guy…

I don't come here specifically to be a peace-maker or as someone who doesn't care about the community here.

I come here to offer advice where I can and keep my mouth shut when I can't.

There were times in the past when I was so wanting to help as many people as I could that I would offer up half baked advice and then end up being corrected and chided for it. After a few doses of that, I learned to curb my enthusiasm and just let questions go unanswered. Some of us, if not most of us are guilty of that same foible at some point in our posting careers here and elsewhere.

I truly don't want to start naming names here but I think if anyone who is reading this thread, might also find themselves guilty of this same sin.

In closing, my final advice for all of us here is to speak up when you have something constructive to say and shut your filthy pie-holes when you don't. :p

Cheers! :)

BY far the best advise

Terrific post, Ghost. I think we all could benefit from following your lead.

Here's what I think.
First of all, I see b-board(s) as a "place" to discuss, to ask, to share and sometimes simply for chatting with friends. Offering advise fits-in well, but it's not the only thing to do.
As for shutting things. Things that are not open can't nor need to be shut and there's no need to go anywhere to keep it in such state.

As for "something constructive", that depends on where, when and more importantly who! you talk.
Cutting trees, crashing rocks, digging the hole etc. all this is a destruction which is part of a construction. We can talk about it if we choose to do so.

Excellent point, Dr ZEE. :)

These forums can also serve as a means for chatting with friends. :)

But, as you and I have not officially declared our friendship, I'm afraid I'm going to have to refer to my previous advice and request that you shut your filthy pie-hole! :p

Cheers! :)

That's good advice, and anyone that comes here with a genuine desire to participate on the up ‘n up can understand that. But therein lies the problem. Web forums, not just this one, attract people that are here for other reasons, which I’ve already tried to explain best I can.

I hope we can all see the difference between members having passionate views, making technical errors, typos, having a grumpy day, and people coming here with ulterior motives. Anyone that continues to return after being banned several times only to take up where they left off is a special problem for any forum.

I would be the last one to propose we try to stifle the creative and often temperamental personalities that are drawn here. Many of us are artists for gosh sakes. We wouldn’t be at all interesting if we had a “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service” sign at the door. Some are more technical than artistic and there are no rules or explanations needed for signing up. We have everthing from collectors that are basically tone deaf to artists that are struggling to understand the technical side. Because of the diversity we will often misunderstand each other.

However, there is a night and day difference between people that simply have different points of view and people that keep returning to settle old scores… which is what this all boils down to.

I agree… everyone should try to be civil, but some people log in with the express purpose to be uncivil and cause strife… the very reason the word, “Troll” is in our vocabulary. That’s the reality. We either avoid it, ignore it or confront it. How long it’s been going on and how much each person can tolerate will influence whether we choose to avoid it, ignore it, or confront it.

Well said, Tim! ;)

I am reminded of Agent 86' famous line from the TV show, Get Smart;

"If only he could of used his powers for good instead of evil."

I guess those that can take something away from that line never really had a problem in the first place. And the remainder, are beyond our help.

Cheers! :)

All joking aside here...

I have not seen anyone offer a reply to MCI2424's request to cite examples of said bad behavior. That's only fair IMO.

It has to do with what we have been through with him already over years.

Each answer one gives is met with another question, and then another, ad infinitum. Any answer will be spun or ignored. It is he that has failed to answer questions over the course of time.

He is like negotiating with Kim Jung-il (North Korea)

It's as if he has some special status that he has to answer for nothing, while we must respond to every point, line-by-line... even though he’s asking kindergarten questions in a college level class.

So no, many of us just won’t even go there anymore. We know where it leads. Answering the next and then the next takes us to no different place than when we don't answer.

I get it - sorta like a grammatically-correct walters. I feel your pain. :(

And I know who Kim Jung-il is, thank you. I saw Team America: World Police. :D

I thought you would... but you never know who's listening. :D

'Kinda hoping Kim is following the thread. Maybe if he sees himself in MCI he will see just what the world has had to put up with and repent. This thread could help avert a nuclear showdown. Or I might piss him off and the missiles will start flying. :o One never knows how these types will react.

"How dale he say I bad as dis intorelaber MCI! How dale he! Who dis Beck tink he is? Bling dis Beck to me! Deaf to Amelika!”

Ain't none o' that fancy kinda hierarchy happenin' at this site, now is there? Therefor the whole thread is moot, and everyone needs to give themselves a spanking (with no assists from True, sorry). MCI2424 is also hereby decreed to do the "Nelson Muntz Walk of Shame" on his own recognizance or forever be branded as a complete and total smeghead.

Yes, and he has banned the person currently known as MCI2424 at least three times that we know of, but as forums go this moderator has a pretty hands-off approach and can do or not do what he wishes depending on how he feels or how busy he is with other things at the time.

Anyway, this is a poll of members... the vote is not binding (nor is it meant to be all that scientific).

What I’ve gleaned from the poll so far is that MCI has 3 to 5 other active user accounts besides MCI2424. :p

That's what triggered the poll....

A quick search of his posts. Just looking at the top 2 pages of the search. As you might guess Andy and Tim do not see eye-to-eye:

Please read s...l...o...w...l...y so you can...

For those that are as stupid as it gets,

You want to know or are you an asskisser to BecK?

You are clueless. Thaks for playing.

I am not trying to fool anyone. Look in the mirror.

As usual, nothing to add of any substance
You are not too smart or have no pHD

I see no value in your continuing harassment. Plaese stop harassing people with your condescending attitude. You do no justice to this BBS.

It is not about tape, it is about assholes. End of discussion. If people here can't see Beck is an asshole, live with it. I refuse to let the assmunch get his way. He has chased enough good people...

OK then. Give details, of when he was banned, for what reasons, the dates involved, the aliases he went under, and all other relevent details.
If the truth is your on your side, let's have it. The whole truth. It can only strengthen your case.

Declarations are for immortals.
When a mortal creatur senses an urge to just chatting with another mortal creatur with no obligations of any kind what so ever - that's a sense of friendship. It also comes and goes, just like the rest of things.
