My first mix of PMC#13
I know what Id like to change.
Im pretty happy with the drums so far, managed to get a nice punch to them.
The kick sounded gash before I EQd it etc, but I love that snare recording.
Unfortunately the snare has been killed quite a bit due to the dreaded L2!!

Please gee us some feedback... pleease. :)

Here's my first mix. Don't know if I have time to do another without sacrificing time I've alotted to getting drunk. Vox might be a tad loud, making guitars/drums not seem as powerful.

Here you go.

Never thought of multiband to tame pops, that's a great idea. I'll implement that into a 2nd mix if I do one.

i guess I have no critics for my second mix. :(

Nop. :P
Ill critique you Will.

Overall mix sounds cool.
You have done well with the vocals although they seem to take away from the energy of the rest of the song.
Id bring the vocals down a bit.
The kick drum is lost in the mix. I know the recording wasn't very good.
The guitars sound a bit harsh. Too bright. Id play about with the high mids some more.

Oo, I notice some exagerated Sss on the vox around 1:59.

Good stuff.
Please critique mine now. :)

Nice mix man.
reminds me of my mix actually.
Listen to mine if you get a minute and see if you think they are similar. :)

What did you do to the guitars? They sound great.
I didnt spend that much time on the guitars, gona play with them in my second mix.

For guitars I added some 6k, some 350, rolled off at 70 with a HPF. I also panned the double for each take apart from each other, whereas all the other mixes I listened to, people panned the 2 takes from each guitar part on the same side. They seemed less phasy sounding that way. I also compressed them with the UAD 1176LN, and added a UAD Pultec pro set with all eq's set to flat, just for the "color" the plug-in exhibits. I sent the guitars to a delay also.

I will listen to yours next time I'm online, I am about the power down my computer for the night(morning?).

I like your method for the guitars. I usually use subtractive EQ for guitars to get rid of the high mid problems, but I suppose boosting the frequencies around these would tame the harshness and also bring more brightness and meat to the guitars. Good idea. I know what I'm trying next. :)

Definitely not in the running for best mix, but decided to do it for the practice. This was my first time mixing real drums, so I really have no idea of the normal "procedure."

Here's my pitiful excuse for a mix: http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=8061

Impressive for your first mix of real drums.
The vox are too dry and boomy IMO. Something happens to them at 1:08 sounds like dodgy editing or a glitch in a plug-in or something.

Snare is too loud in comparison to the kick. The kick is pretty weak, Id spend more time on the EQ of the kick.
Overall decent mix man.
Good stuff.
The quality of mixes these days in this forum has gone up a big big amount since I started on here about 3 years or so ago.

Critique mine if you have time.

Well, here's my 3rd pass, just some minor tweaks, mostly de-emphasizing the ultra low end a bit, and getting a little more crackle from the upper mids... filed off as much of the vocal plosives as I could without thinning it out too much..

Hey, I am about to make some adjustments on my mix (several pages ago), would some one give me some feedback before I start tweeking? I pretty much know what I need to do, but I was hoping to see what someone else is hearing. Thanks.

Here is my link.

I'll be listening to mixes again late tonight, on my BRAND NEW MONITORS  :) :) :)

The mix is very muddy.
The kick and bass are lost in the low end.
Id work on cleaning up those low mids and tightening up the low end.

lol.
Id dramatically cut the low mids.
Probably in the guitars to start.
Dump a commercial mix into your session and use it as a reference. Id try using a metallica song since this song kinda has the same sound.

HAHAHAHA!!! :)

The hardest rock in my personal collection is Red Hot Chili Peppers; that's how far removed from this genre I normally swim. But, I'll see what I can find... :)

The mix is pretty muddy overall.
The vocals stick out too much, and I really dont like the effect on the vocals.

The snare is not bad. OHs are nice.

Eck

Eck,

Thanks for the feedback. Was my first mix as muddy? I think I over did it on the guitars and maybe even on the bass. I will make one more attempt.
