That squeal is still there. It's very prominent throughout the little interlude from 1:16 to 1:38. Maybe mute the tracks one at a time to see where it is.

As far as the mix goes, I'd like to hear the vocals more....I am straining right now to make them out. And the whine or squeal is a bit distracting at times...I wind up trying to figure out what it is instead of paying attention to the song.

Bring the vox up a little in the mix, and fix the squeal sound.....music is pretty good.

That's where the flute solo is :D Are you sure that's not what you're hearing?

I agree - it's going to be hard to judge the clarity/tone of the vocals until they are brought up a bit. So far they sound pretty good. They sit well at the beginning of the last verse but are buried most other times.

I'm not getting that high pitched squeal until the very end. Maybe my ears are not as good. I'm getting a few high pitched things specifically at these times. I wonder if it's related to the cello - like bow noise?
1:16-1:38 = Sounds like the flute, can't hear any squeals.
4:05-4:10 = Sounds like a mandolin, can't hear any squeals.
5:25-End = That sounds like a squeal "noise" - maybe that's what everyone else can hear throughout the song. I just can't.....

Ok Folks,
This link goes to a section of the vocal track only. The 2nd 1/2.
I've taken a sample from the quiet section of the track & run it through the noise reduction section of waverepair. SO, technically anyway, the track should now be free of any inherent noise.
I soloed each instrument etc on the song & couldn't hear anything hissy or high pitched. I paused etc to get a comparison between my ears hissing & any on the tracks & couldn't hear any - doesn't mean it's not there though.
The question:
Is the noise on this track?
http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=5495711&q=hi

yes it is, or rather they are.

samplitudes frequency analizer tells me it's two seperate noises. one at 10900 Hz and one at 10600 at a level of about -60 dB.

i could hear them clearly as soon as the file started to play.

Thank you gentlemen,
I've run another quick mix with deep cuts in the two freqs Faderbug referred to. I've attempted to upload 6 times but at about 75% through I get a can't find server message - I assume either my ISP (the biggest mob in Oz) or Soundclick are experiencing peak usage or something similarly annoying. I'll try agin tomorrow arvo.
Pity about the prob as the performances are better than the MP3 vox I 1st used. Ah well, to bed then.

Hi Ray, I must have lost my hearing in the upper ranges. I cannot hear the hiss on the "hiss test" vocal track on Soundclick. I have a steady hiss on my earbuds even without the track playing - thanks to Windows I guess....
The track itself sounds really nice and clean, I'd just add a bit of reverb and pop that into the mix.....good performance too.... Post a mix when you can....

Man, you really can't hear it? That's odd. You've been jamming too loud. Turn it down or wear some earplugs. :p

The hiss sounds like the high range ringtone that was going around for a while that only younger people can hear. Kids were setting them as their message ringtones and beeper ringtones and stuff so the teachers can't hear.

The hiss is clear on the hiss test.

Thought I'd mention it.

:)

This link is to a version that has been EQ'd to address the hiss based on faderbugs analysis.
Does it do the job?
If not I'll attempt a conversion to MP3 using a different prog as it MIGHT be an artifact of conversion.
Barring that I'll have to accept that along with the upgrading of my reading glasses to bifocal reading & TV watching specs the optomitrist presented me with for an up coming birthday I'll have to get my hearing checked as well.
Age shall weary me & the years condemn.
Let me know folks - greg & Big Bubba ta for confirming what others, apart from Ido & I, hear.

they're gone!

just to make sure i ran the song through the spectrum analiser and there's no sign of them anymore.

seems like you finaly beat those squealing demons.

It's still there man, but not nearly as bad. I really think it's something with the vocal track because it seems to kick in with each line. Maybe it's the compressor kicking in. I don't know, but it is still there, but not as bad.

great ears gregl!

checked it again and there's a new high pitched noise at 10870 at a very low level. i couldn't hear it.

Okay I definitely hear some hiss in the intro.
There's actually two sounds
- one sounds like amp noise right at the beginning
- the other is definitely a hiss that begins just prior to the vocals
(Maybe my hearing isn't as bad as I first thought) This has been a day of winners (whiners?? lol) and prizes in the clinic....What do I win????? :)
An aside - I think the vocals are too low. Not sure if I would boost volume or eq it up a tad.....

:):D:):D

I didn't read through the thread, so I don't know how many times you've changed it since first posting.

I love the feel of this....It's full and very dreamy. I find the vocals way too low, though. Maybe if they were panned closer to the middle, they'd be more apparrent. I love the lyrics, but I'm straining to hear them.

Everything else sounds great to me, Ray.

Vocal needs to come up, and if you haven't rolled the lows off of it, do that and bump it in the 1-2K range too. I can make out about every 5th word. Also, while I really like the sound of the bass, it's too frikkin' loud.

I'm on headphones here. My impression is that the vocals and percussion could be brought forward, particularly the vox, and there's plenty of room up the middle of the mix. Some nice stuff going on with the accoustic guitar and the cello. Nice tune Ray

Gentle folk,
http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=4214178&q=hi
goes to the latest mix.
I've raised the vox;
Rolled off the bottom of the bass, tweaked it at 3kh & pulled it back though the BBE might need adjusting as it seems to push the bass back up again;
Centred my cello in the loud bits;
Stripped the 6 string acoustic out to an external noise reducer to clean it up & popped it straight back in (didn't know I could do that - now I do) as a stereo track;
Compressed miriam's 'cello in the pretty bits to give it some presence/omph;
Added some verb, only a tad, to the main vox for Ido;
Added BBE Sonic Max over the whole thng to put some sparkle back after some heavy EQ cutting in the vox;
And added a tiny shimmer of verb over the mix as it's the way Gerry remembered it;
and finally
tidied up the stereo image little.

Bulls Hit - I didn't read your post until after I uploaded the mix - let me know if there's still a scoop in the mids.
Am I getting there?
