Vox Viscount Amp

Is anyone familiar with the late 60's Vox Viscount amp, what it sounds like, if it's a good amp for recording etc..

I am a big Vox fan, but mostly the AC-30. But I haven't played any of the older solid-state amps like the Viscount. But if you happen to come across a tubed Viscount I'd snatch it quick!

The Viscount is a horrible sounding, unreliable amp, although it sure looks great.

As a kid, we naturally all wanted Vox gear, but there were no guitar mags around to inform us that the American amps were shit, and the British amps were THE shit. It wasn't till much later in the game that I realized how great the British AC-30s really were. Now, they're of course legendary...

I recently stumbled upon a Viscount in mint condition, and it really sucked. I own a few British AC-30s and 15s, and this thing really pointed out why that company went down the tubes in the States...

I was easily able to sell the Viscount, though....600 bucks if I remember correctly...

NOPE!!! It's not very good for any recording dude, but the LINE 6 AMPS are great for recording... I have a SPIDER 212 model 100 watts, very awesome amps...

I can understand why you dislike the AC-30 and all of the AC models...
but as far as the VOX 1967 model AMPS, as per the BEATLE, the SUPER BEATLE, the ROYAL GUARDSMAN & the VISCOUNT, you've got to be NUTTS or a bit crazy to think thier crap!!! So what do you play on AMP wise now dude??? PEAVEY, Fender, Hartke, Crate???

The solid state Vox amps from the late 60's weren't very good.
I had a Super Beatle back then and even though I was young and didn't know a lot we knew it was pretty crappy sounding.
But it wasn't really Vox's fault. Solid state amps were actually a fairly newish invention and basically all solid state amps regardless of manufacturer were crap from that era because they didn't totally understand how to design the things to make 'em sound decent.
Hell, even today after decades of making them most solid state amps don't really sound as good as a nice tube amp.

And grizzly bears make great house pets.
