It's not just about what is "legal".
There's a lot of legal shit that is wrong....and at some point what's legal today is not legal tomorrow.

The real point is more personal...and there should be some thought given to the need for anyone to go purely for trophy hunting.
Something like deer hunting where it thins out the overgrown heard, and where much of the meat is consumed as food....has some level of acceptability...but hunting animals that have nothing to do with food or survival...and especially exotic animals that are getting closer to extinction...simply so someone can hang a head on a wall....well, it's kinda stupid in this day and age.
I think people can and should shed their need to kill something just for the pleasure of it all....

Oh...and the arguments that the money paid to take a trophy is used to help the rest of the animals...well fuck, just donate it if you are that worried about helping the animals. Why do you need to kill one in order to help the rest...???

Best post miro has ever made.

About out 20-30 years ago...some guys at work who were into your typical fall deer hunting, got me all wound up, so being a mountain/woods/hiking/camping kind of guy, I figured, OK...it could be fun.

So I went out, got my gun permits, did all the licensing and shit...and that first Fall, started getting ready. I spent a lot of time in the woods checking for deer sign, and getting familiar with their trails, etc.
I ended up spotting a nice buck with one broken tine on his antlers...and I watched him come-n-go for a month as the deer hunting season approached.

On the first day, I went to my spot, sat there for about an hour, and sure enough, that same buck came along.
BANG!!!
One shot, clean through both lungs and dead center through his heart. He jumped and ran about 50 yards and then collapsed, dead in a gully.

I dragged him out, skinned him, and gave away most of the meat.....and then something happened.
I sat there a couple of days after that, and kinda wondered WTF was the point of it all...???

I mean, in that one moment after I shot him and I watched him run off and then collapse dead...all my desires to hunt, died with that buck. I also realized then that the part about the hunting that was really fun and enjoyable was everything before the actual killing....the woods, the quiet..etc.
Never went hunting again....

It's actually nice to hear a reasonable story from someone with some experience of this shit.

Mine like that was dove hunting. Just a dumb little bird. I was 12 maybe? 13. I was dove hunting, clipped one in the wing. He didn't die. I had to finish him. I didn't like it. I've not hunted since.

Mine was with a BB gun and a Robin. I'm not against hunting, I just can't do it. If I were hungry...

Lol, poor thing was prolly trying to bring you an olive branch.

What I don't get is life is short, so why live here, why not move to any other wealthy industrialized country for universal healthcare? You won't get it here until you are 65 if then.

I don't need it for me.

The old "if you don't like it you can leave" argument is weak sauce.

I'm going to Denmark in about 4 weeks. I'll get sick and report back. Visiting some friends who've moved there for a year because the wife works for a Danish company and is on secondment.... he came back for a couple of weeks and we met up for coffee last weekend - he was less than glowing about Denmark's socialised healthcare in particular - said it wasn't really up with Australian, by a long chalk.

Also said that when he and the wife and kid arrived and filed their residency papers they were assigned a doctor. This is your doctor... you go to see him/her and no-one else. Tough if you can't get an appointment. Said one of the wife's Danish colleagues found a lump in her breast and was told the first time she could get a scan was in THREE MONTHS time. That's not good healthcare... you find a lump in your breast here you're getting scanned an hour later and you can find yourself talking to a surgeon very quickly indeed about a biopsy - like the next day.

His overall opinion of the country (and remember, he's Australian, and we're way left of the US generally in most things) was that it was way too socialist for his taste. And too cold, but that was a separate discussion...

No doubt every system has its warts. But if you asked the people of Denmark if they'd care to trade their Government system for our for-profit system, a scant minority would say yes. Cancer treatment is one area where the US does well - as long as you're not in the least wealthy 20%.

He basically will ..... I imagine he'll have to move and even change his name. He's losing his business already and if a wacko gets it into his head, he could even be killed.
All because he has a tiny penis and wants to show what a 'man' he is by pretending to be a big hunter. He has animals like this brought to him so he can kill them.
He's a POS and deserves what he's getting.

hes actually at retirement age for a Dentist, I'm sure he will sell his practice an do quite well, probably teach. This is not Dylan Roof we are talking about.

Heard the AP interviewed people of Zimbabwe. In a nutshell, they hadn't heard of the story then when the reported informed them of it, the average reaction was, lions are killed everyday here, why aren't you concerned with our lives?

Meanwhile, in the luxurious palace of Zimbabwe's dictator for life, Robert Mugabe, countless heads of other endangered dead animals hang from the walls of his mansion. Do you know what was on the menu for his last state sponsored birthday party? A dead baby elephant. But, hey, he's a nice guy who ran every viable business out of his country which sits with an 85% unemployment rate and where the average citizen makes a grand total of $900 a year.

Mugabe didn't seem to mind cashing the good doctor's cheque for $55 grand at the time and now he fains outrage and calls for him to be extradited to face his brand of justice? lol.

Hunting for sport is certainly debatable but the crocodile tears of Mugabe is an absolute joke.

Cheers! :)

True, two people were interviewed. Good sample size, right? That's like saying you defend this dentist, so we all do, right? Mr bad-media is eating up the media that supports his side. Typical hypocritical.

And the courts want us to extradite the dentist. So, sure, a few mud hut dwelling savages of zimbabwe have no idea what's going on, while the people that do want to bring this guy to justice.
