Thanks so much DD83, sorry for the delay, I have been in NC doing a service project for the past several days. Would this take care of the latency issue? The reason I ask is that I have a fireface 800 that I use to record from my desktop (6gb of ram), and it still has a lot of pops and clicks...
Hey Guys! So I am wanting perform with my Akai MPD32 with Ableton Live 8. I bought an M-Audio MobilePre for an external interface today, but it stutter's on a fixed pattern of every few seconds running Ableton. I've put the samples really high to see (1900), but still there is popping, just...
I'm not sure things will specifically compliment the fireface (perhaps you could do something given their clean converters), its mainly just quality gear. Something my "recording mentor" told me was to buy the level you need, not what will do at the time. This sadly usually means waiting a bit...
You could try using impulses that would give you more options. There are a lot of free ones and some you can buy (just look up guitar impulses and some how to's). Basically an impulse is a .wav file that you use with a reverb plugin that essentially runs your signal through whatever the...
I usually buy vinyl (most people don't realize most bands still release vinyl, as long as its not like a top 40 artist), but for mobile listening I download at least 320kbps or flac. Perhaps I don't have as trained an ear as most, but I think you can create a pleasing an accurate listening...
I've never used FL studio for recording, but I imagine that you are recording stereo when you only have one mic. Change the setting so that you record in mono, then it will play through both speakers. If you want a track to be only on the left, or an in between (say 75% right speaker), then...
Just as a side note, I think the right amount can be very different for certain songs. Pop songs aren't going to use too much, but sometimes music needs to be drenched in my opinion. Gregorian chants wouldn't be the same without it, or the singer Julianna Barwick...
Plus man, depending on the VST's, you can get some pretty good sounding stuff. Its not going to be like your favorite albums, but neither is a local studio. Recording on your own is not only rewarding, but a very valuable learning experience. Having this base knowledge will make things easier...
Thanks guys. And thanks Grim for your comment about the Yorks, I may need to reconsider. My main concern isn't as much them sounding fun to listen to, but having mixes translate better. You all are probably right that I will be unsure if I like them, but being as they will be my first set...
Thanks man, I think I'll follow your advice and just go with a pair of new yamaha's. Its a big step for me (I was still using computer speakers!), so they should do well for me a couple of years. Then maybe I could step up a few levels or so. Thanks so very much Glen. I'll try to report back...
Thank you so much SSGlen, So I'll go ahead and rule out the Yorkies to make it easier. At this point I'm leaning towards the yamahas since I could get them new, I'm just worried about blown speakers. Is this being too cautious, or a legitimate worry? I buy a lot of used gear, but given the...
Hello all,
I'm trying as much as possible not to ask "Whats the best...", but I may not be able to dance around it :D So I've been reading posts and weighing options of the monitors I should buy for 2 1/2 months now, and I think I've narrowed it down to a couple options.
(1) Yorkville...
FL is the easiest program I've ever used for sequencing, however their in house sounds aren't great. Ultimately though, it depends on what sounds you're going for. If it were me, I'd look at getting some vst's with the sounds you're looking for, and use FL strictly as the sequencer. Can you...
Definitely check out the new line by NCG, its actually right at $349. They look nice as well: https://i.imgur.com/ARIW2.png
(you can just pm me your paypal info :D)
Since you have the recording capability, why don't you try to multi-track? Now, you'll have to start with guitar instead of drums, but this way you can edit each track individually. Then when your drummer goes to record he can just use headphones. Also, I'd not record it so hot, I don't think...
Was very entertaining, but it bothered me when he asked "Why would you use any other mic?". I mean I am definitely impressed, but durability isn't the end all. Still though, it looked like they had a really fun time :D Great post!
Getting a good computer for audio isn't as hard as it seems (most of the time). Assuming you know what OS you want, I would first take into consideration what you're trying to accomplish. you mentioned using FL, which can only use 4 gigs of ram currently so you don't really more than that...

I'm still trying to find the balance of "plant where you grow" and "buy where you need to be"...
you could have two doors, kind of like how there are screen doors (except the "screen" would be the glass, and the glass door would now be a padded regular door). This way, when not in use you can still use the glass and have it look all nice, but then why have the glass when you could just...
