Volume Pedal - oil or graphite?

My Ernie Ball volume pedal is sticking a little. Should I use WD-40 or graphite to lubricate the mechanism? Thanks!

    Tube Lacquer

Spread some of this magical lacquer on your transistors and make 'em sound just like tubes. Who comes up with this crap? And who buys it? More great stuff here, like these $30,750 speaker cables.

    Tube Amp Pop and Squeal

Last night my Boogie started popping randomly, really loudly. I quit using it, thinking I would try and diagnose the problem today. Today I turned it on, and as soon as I took it off standby, it squealed really loudly. It's not guitar feedback, it was coming from the amp. I was looking at the...

    Electric Shock

When the microphone is shocking me in the lips, does that mean I need to plug my amp into the same circuit/outlet that the mixer is plugged into? Is there anything I should know before using a long extension cord with my 35 watt tube amp? I assume that ground-lifting a tube amp is a bad thing?

    Muddy Water Spins (acoustic/folk rock)

I'd appreciate your comments on this track. Muddy Water Spins by The South Pine Porch Band Thanks, Dave

    Bass V-AMP Pro S/PDIF levels

I am connecting the Bass V-AMP Pro to my Delta 66 via S/PDIF and the levels are very low. For most of the presets, I have to crank the preamp volume (2nd knob from the left) all the way up to get the peaks around -6 db on the Delta. The rms is still between -18 and -12. I think the signal going...

Summing & Clipping in Virtual Mains

Is it normal to have to pull down each track 10 - 20 dB to avoid clipping the virtual main? I'm tracking everything between -6 and -12, but I'm having to play it back between -20 and -30 just to avoid clipping the mix bus. It seems like there is very little headroom. This is in HS2004. Thanks...

    Does latency matter for tracking?

As long as I'm using hardware monitoring, does latency matter for tracking? I tried to test it by looping one of the outs to one of the ins on my Delta 66, and it appeared that the latency reported by hs2004 didn't make a difference. Did I miss something, or is this correct? Thanks, Dave

Care and Feeding of my New Mistress

I've been playing guitar for about 10 years, and got my first bass this week (a late 90s Washburn custom shop xb900PJ). I am fairly knowledgable about how to transport and care for my guitars, but I am wondering if there are any significant differences for bass. Are there different procedures...

    hs2004?

I am going from a minidisc 8-track to a DAW setup, and looking at HS2004 for the software part (with Delta 66 Omni). I've got a bunch of questions that I've been trying to answer at the Cakewalk site and the forum archives. 1) Is it correct that only Sonar Producer has per-track EQ? If so, how...

    mic info website

Learning about Microphones - I saw this site mentioned on MetaFilter the other day. There are lots of photos of older (and newer) mics and some tech info as well.

    Djembe stand

Who makes a good djembe stand? I want something that will hold the djembe at an angle so it goes between my legs as if it was strapped on. I saw one at GC, but it seemed cheap and wobbly. Who makes a good one and where can I get it? What should I expect to pay for it?

    Cheap FX

I hate my Alesis nanoverb. A Lexicon MPX 1 or TCE MOne XL would be overkill for my little studio. I am wondering if the Lexicon MPX 110 or TCE M300 sound any better than the nanoverb. I know they have more programs and features, but do the reverbs sound any better?

    v67 on the way

I just ordered a v67. Wanted to say thanks to all you guys who bicker relentlessly about budget LDCs. :D It's great to read all the opinions. Here's to hoping that "dark" works well with my voice. It should be here Friday.

noob q: Gain Stages in my Preamp

Hello, I am new here. I've been reading for a few weeks and haven't found an answer to this question in the archives, so here I go. :) I am taking the output of a dbx 286a pre into the channel insert on my mixer, bypassing the (awful) preamp in the mixer. The fader on the mixer is at 0db, so...
