Does latency matter for tracking?

As long as I'm using hardware monitoring, does latency matter for tracking?

I tried to test it by looping one of the outs to one of the ins on my Delta 66, and it appeared that the latency reported by hs2004 didn't make a difference. Did I miss something, or is this correct?

But us really cool guys use Input Monitoring, and then latency matters...
