Thanks to everybody who's responding! This is the first thing I've really recorded. My friend is actually the one playing. I'm the one doing the recording. And this is the result of like 45 minutes worth of mixing. As you could no doubt tell, the drums are just a loop (we don't have a...
Lest you think I'm asking you to listen without listening to others myself,
S8-N: I listened to your "cover" of Natural Woman. Very funny. The sound was great, though the bass line stuck out at times. (Just my impression) And the vocals, were a little jilty, but I think that's what you were...
I'd like to hear any and all criticisms of this song, particularly on the PRODUCTION aspect.

Thanks for your time! ;)
I don't think you necessarily have a software problem. Are you sure that your sound card is full duplex, i.e. that you can playback and record at the same time?
Also, while it's not shareware, I've been having fantastic luck with Acid's products (about $50 at Best Buy).

Break the file into separate .wav's, making sure to leave no extra space at the end or beginning of each track, then burn DISC-AT-ONCE, not track-at-once. During playback, you will hear no gaps, but you will still be able to use the track selector.
Hope this helps.
So how would you recommend getting around it? I'm trying to make a backup copy of my Midtown Madness and I'm getting an error like illegal file or some s**t like that.
Any clues, ideas, help would be greatly appreciated.
That stuff that I said got garbled didn't really. Now that I've listened to it, I can hear that the radio station edited Kid Rock a lot by cutting stuff and smooshing it together. So rather than having gaps, it sounds all jolted. THey edited Metallica from time to time by playing the intro of...
For whatever reason, it stopped recording after it hit 2 gigs. (The concert actually went for 4 hours). And the beginning portion got garbled up (that was Kid Rock). But it sounds like stuff just got inserted in weird places, and with some careful cutting, I should be able to put together a...
I definitely know about the line-in.
But another question:
A 3 hour concert is going to be like 1 gig. Is that going to throw my AMD K6-2-400, 7 gig empty HD, 128 MB RAM, SB Live Value sound card, Win 98, Sound Forge XP system into convulsions? How about when it comes time to parse into...
Thanks for the prompt reply. I needed the affirmation cause I've already fried one sound card (SB Live Value). ANd don't want to do that again :0
Thanks again.
Can anybody tell me whether or not the "Out to Tape" on the back of my receiver is at line level? Thanks.
This radio station in Chicago is broadcasting the Metallica concert live, unedited, uncut (so they say) and I would love to get it on CD. I get to see them tomorrow night.
There are two major levels you need to be concerned with when recording through the line-in on your sound card:
1) Playback volume--which is obviously fine, since you can hear yourself playing through the computer.
2) Recording volume--which sounds like it's turned off. Look around your...
The manual doesn't make any reference to disc at once vs track at once. IT does discuss all the other options. I decided I'd just see what happened if I burned a disc "disc at once". Worst case, I lose a $1 CD. As it turned out, it did exactly what I wanted.
THe manuals for most of my...
I'm using Philips Write2CD software. My aim is to copy a cd, not have any added gaps between tracks, but still be able to flip from track to track. Will copying "disc at once" do this? IF not, what is "disc at once" for and what can I do to prevent the program from adding space?
Thanks in...
I don't know much about MIDI, but I'm pretty sure that it's just like any other input in that your sound card has to know that it's receiving input. Your sound card software probably has mixer settings for playback/recording. Make sure it's not muted and make that the levels are up. Second...
Thanks, Lorddiagram.
Now a follow-up.
Will I need separate pre-amps for bass, guitar, and vocals? And do you have any recommendations on where to look for a kit to build one (some) of my own?
THanks again.
Can somebody please explain to me how amps, heads, and pre-amps are related?
I want to record bass, guitar, and vocals. If I can run a line out from the source to my sound card, out to my receiver, what do I need as the source--a pre-amp, an amp, what? Do I need a couple of different...
