    Dating my Yamaha NS10 speakers

Can anyone help me find out how old my Yamaha NS10s are? As I recall, I bought them in the mid-1990s. Is there a list of serial numbers I can review? Thank you.

    UR 44 vs. UR RT4 - recommendations?

I'm looking at buying one of the other - anyone used both? How much better is the UR RT4, or is it just the Rupert Neve name recognition? Thank you all

    Help and advice needed please

I have my recording equipment from the early 2000s when my (non-musical) career took over and so I haven't done any playing or recording since then. Now I'm in the position of being able to get back to it, and I would appreciate some help in determining if it's going to do what I need it to do...

Better mixer for not much mo $$$

It has been suggested that i buy a Behringer XENYX 1204 Mixer - $130. Behringer used to be pretty low on the quality charts - is there something better for $200 or less? Thank you.

"the true secret to great amp tone"

Yes it's one of my rigs. And it really works great for a whole host of stuff (but definitely not anything requiring some serious distortion). I didn't say it was the only great rig - but it surely is one of the great ones. I do have salt and pepper in my spice rack - and if you think of the...

"the true secret to great amp tone"

Y'all are way too complicated. Great guitar > cord > great amplifier. E.g. 1964 Strat > cord > 1966 Vibrolux Reverb Add a touch of reverb to taste . . . Any questions?

If you can find a Tokai 'strat' from the early '80s, buy it. They were great!

    Good practice/live performance amp

. . . and there's the rub. It's a simulator. However, based on your commitment to it, I shall take it for a spin next time i'm in a store. Watch this space . . . ;)

Harvey Reid - Archibald MacDonald of Keppoch

Happy ending . . . I found a copy of it - on a friend's iPod!!! How cool . . . (All those old ladies I helped across the street when I was a kid!)

    Good practice/live performance amp

A solid-state pre-amp is not going to give you a tube sound. Marshall-typs designs do drive the power tubes to get their sound. Fender-type amps (including Boogies) drive the pre-amp tubes to get their sound. If you don't have any pre-amp tubes, it's kinda hard to overdrive them. I'm not...

    Good practice/live performance amp

For rooms that big, you're going to be mic'ed up anyway - so raw watts isn't a factor. I would go with a small tube amp (e.g. Deluxe reverb or similar). Hope this helps.

How much do you want to spend, and by playing live, how big a room are you going to be playing in?
