Digital noise on vocal track?

So I've got all the parts done, and ready to mix to the .wav for my Comp CD submission - but whenever I try to convert it, I get a digital noise just as the vocal starts.

This occasionally happens when playing back - but if I play the track through that spot and immediately run it back, it doesn't do it - then when I try and do the .wav conversion, it's there on the track.

I'm thinking of recording a few seconds before the vocal starts, and automating a 'silence' to 'performance volume' just before the vocal starts.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

I get that from time to time when I do all spdif recordings. A little spot at the front of the track. After I do the mixdown I just add silence to the front of the track. I cant explain why it does that though.

Oh Stealthy one, you are my hero.

What I was doing was recording the silence - but if you do it in the editing mode, it works great.

Thank you.

And malcomn, my first thought was defrag and check the settings - all of which were fine. Thanks for the suggestions tho.
