Better mixer for not much mo $$$

You can get something close from Mackie for a little over your $200 or Soundcraft (nicer than Mackie IMO) for a little more.

The question I have is, do you actually *need* a mixer? Maybe you've thought this through and know exactly what you need, but if not then take a minute and outline what you are trying to do... Its totally plausible to have a home recording studio without a mixer.

This might seem like a bit of a trivial, if not silly question, but it would help for us to structure our recommendations / answers better... what specifically do you need the mixer for?

EDIT: Jeff, you beat me to it then! I would anticipate that in a lot of situations, money would be better spent towards a decent interface than a cheap mixer.
