Zoom R16 Recording Trouble With Cubase

I am trying to record onto cubase using my Zoom R16 as an audio interface. I have connected my Zoom R16 to the computer, but the indicator on the zoom that says, "audio interface," is flashing and I don't know how to make it not flash. When I try to record into Cubase Le5 it won't let me map any of the inputs or outputs for the VST connection to the Zoom R16. It also won't let me use the zoom R16 as a Mackie controller.

Please help :)
