Hix,

Foolish posts outside the Cave...BAD....

Dont make me....

i'm doing recording on a very tight budget and according to the 'Law of Budget Recording', I should be owing lots and lots of Zoom products but strangely I have none ! ... and guess what, i have no Korg products either ... but i don't mind having them though.

daled, read the reviews, post to existing users, check it out yourself, the guys here hate Zoom products through and through.

here's one review i've come acrossed just recently ..

all the best !

Before making my final decision about purchasing "other equipment" I always ask myself and the salesman: Will it make me breakfast in bed?

thanks for the reference to the article hongteck. Do you know of anyone who has one of these ps 02s? I just want to find some mp3s so I know what kind of quality i could expect.

Ive got to agree that zoom stuff is usually pretty standard quality equipment but when the price is right it sure is better than my 10 yr. old Yamaha MT100 4 track!! - I dont have enough $$ to get a roland system yet :)

hey Carter,

saying 'Zoom = suck' twice in response to the posts suck much more !

.. sorry couldn't resist :-)

YES - I now realize that double posting is 'against the law' on this message board. I thank you all who have taken time out of your 'busy schedules' to inform me of this - repeatedly. Yes, I know I made a mistake double posting, but don't you think it is more than a little hypocritcal scolding me for a little mistake while you fill this thread up with useless posts telling me that "double posting = suck" for the tenth time or that "zoom=suck"? If you are going to take the time to post a reply, you might as well make it a valid and subjective opinion or at least offer some assistance relevant to the matter...

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. BTW, thanks for the links hongtek. Ive already checked out the reviews at Harmony Central (which all seem to be very postive). Im actually looking for audio samples of what people have done with it, so Im gonna try to personally email the people who posted the reviews.

On the issue surrounding this product, I dont think it is fair to pass it off simply as "zoom=suck". Understandably, zoom products aren't professional processing tools, but they dont claim to be either. They are marketed to those who are unable to find an appropriate place to set up proper equipment or who cant afford to drop a couple thousand dollars to set up a DAW with all the latest high-tech goodies. Personally, I am a student on a tight budget with no place to set up tons of guitar amps, mics, etc. so a package like this, that includes digital recording, built in drum tracks and bass tracks, 30+ effects for guitar and a tuner, seems like a good idea.

Of course this thing wont produce 'professional' audio, but its not meant to. In the same respect, you can own the latest roland workstation or CPU setup but unless you spend thousands of dollars on 'professional' equipment (or better yet, go to a professional studio with professional engineers who know how to use the stuff) you are never going to get 'professional' quality sound. The point is that the entire idea of home recording is relative - you are never going to achieve that polished recording that you could in professional studio. What you will get is a good sounding recording that will allow you the freedom to to personally produce and engineer your own compositions to your own satisfaction at a fraction of the cost of prolonged studio time. The whole idea is the ratio of price vs. quality. Even if zoom products arent the highest quality products, the products they do offer fit the lower price market accordingly. The PS 02 is a budget songwriting tool, plain and simple - and a useful one at that.

Wow, Im finished my regression now :)

Okay here is a useful reply for you. Zoom shit sucks. Happy????? Good.

Most zoom effect gears contain hi s/n ratio. I own a Zoom 505 and rfind it useful for certain effects but in the area of distortion, it produces unnecessary harmoncs.
The Zoom ps02 is a cool little device for capturing musical ideas on the run where you don't have access to your main recording gear. It wil not replace actual multi-track recorders nor does it have that many recording capabilities and with the insertion of the Smart Media card you can increase your recording time
from the internal 2-3 minute time-limit to approx 30 min.
The Zoom PS02 was designed for basically recording your "Lite-Bulb" tune-in-your-head that you can't jot down at the present moment.
IMHO, I just can't justify the price for this recorder.
Peace
Mr.Q
BTW, Not all Zoom products suck. Some DO have their usefulness.

I have never seen a Zoom product that is profesional level. In my opinion toys suck.

I never said anything about Zoom being professional gear, just simply that some of the Zoom line efx are useful.

Carter Simcoe,

I think you are missing the point here. Zoom products are NOT professional products nor do they claim to be. They are useful products designed for people on a budget. They are meant for the amateur/recreational musician who can't afford (or justify) dropping a couple grand for "professional" quality equipment. Since there are thousands more recreational musicians out there than 'pro' musicians, ZOOM does have its place in the market. I think it is useless to compare this product, which wasn't even designed with professional or semi-profesional recording applications in mind, with the many higher priced digital workstations available.

The question is, comparatively - is this product (despite its obvious limitations) worth the dollar? I agree that their retail price is too high but a local music store is selling them this month for $350 Canadian(~$200 US), which is 50% off, so its got me thinking...
