Hi sorry to bother you all, I'm not sure if any of you are acquainted with the Zoom range of Multi Tracker portastudios... but...

I'm tempted to buy a new Zoom - MRS802-CDRW (40gig hard drive)

But I've also seen a 2nd hand Zoom MRS1266-CDRW (20gig hard drive) for less money

Anyone got any tips on which is better?

Thanks

I can only give my opinion on the 1266 which I've had for about 6 months, and I find it brilliant. It's no doubt frowned on by most people on here who have greater knowledge than me, but for a newbie who wants to quickly make some decent recordings, doesn't need more than 10 or so tracks, and needs a few on board effects it's great.

how much $$ are we talking, I can sell you a brand new MRS1608cd w/ warranty + usb card for $699.99 if you are intersted

No one here, especially those of us who visit the Newbies forum with any regularity, frown on ANYTHING that helps anyone make satisfying recordings at home. Or elsewhere, for that matter...

I would go with the MRS1266 just because it has more tracks. Observe the usual 'buying used' checklist - non-smoking studio, no serious cosmetic problems, all knobs and lights work, etc.

Don't let the smaller hard drive concern you --- you can back up your work to the internal CD burner, wipe it off the hard drive and use the free space for your next magnum opus. 20 gigabytes is a BUNCH of hard drive space...

:D

Great choice!
I got the 1266 and I love it. It works well in combination with many other equipment, even software plug-ins too!

Only problem I ever had with my Zoom was that the Stop Button snapped off, so i have to press the tiny inner button down with a Pen to stop it, but I do love it. My best advice is buy anything with more tracks...Upgrading is not convinient.
