did ya hear? ziljian has just released the zbx series.
i won't to know something... are these made from the same cheap s**t of the zbt?

whats the price range? the price normally tells you what quality. unless were talking about sabians, in which case no matter what the price, your geting shinny garbage can lids. unless you wanna spend twice as much as any other cymbal maker in the world and get some of the few series of cymbals that they make that are worth anything, like the ones Mike Portnoy uses. More expensive than Paiste's best cymbals and half the quality of their worst cymbals, lol. Sabian sux. <---- end rant----
I notice that the better the cymbal line, the more pricey they are.

hmm.......

there a little higher then the zbts. nothing personal but sabian is not so bad i play one of there aa 16" thin crashes and it sounds great! i bought it at a music store for $100.00. and sabian is made by zildjian.

Last I checked, Sabian wasn't made by Zildjian... Gather 'round hehe

*Story Time!*

Basically, Zildjian and Sabian were the same company, waaaaay back in the day. They're the last names of the people who created Zildjian, I think. They had conflicting interests in how the cymbals should sound, or something more retarded than that, and had a split. Zildjian stayed Zildjian, and Sabian was born. They've quite similar, yes, because of the patterned grooves in the cymbals came from the same background. However, I seem to remember something about being able to patent the patterns, so Sabian had to do something slightly different from Zildjian, because of patent laws.

As I remember it, that's the basic thing there... They're not made BY Zildjian... they used to be one company...

If I'm off my rocker here, however, let me know. ^_^

There are two Zildjian brothers who indeed had a parting of the ways (hey sometimes brothers don't get along).

So one brother bought out the other and remained the head of Zildjian - the other brother formed Sabian. Some key production people left Zildjian and went to Sabian. The same family "formula" for mixing the metals are part of the Sabian process.

Sabian's are good cymbals. I played Zildjian for about 25 years, but changed to Sabian about 3 years ago after visiting the factory and seeing how committed they were to thier product (I play all Hand Hammered cymbals.

Certainly the entry level B8 line does not sound very good (that can also be said for the Zildjian ZBT series and the Paiste 303's etc). However once you get into the AA, AAX etc. they are good sounding cymbals - the Evalution series are very cool sounding.

boo to sabian

i've never been a fan of sabian cymbals...sure every now and again i'll hear one that actually sounds good. i mean, some wuhan cymbals, which really are garbage lids sound better than a lot of the lower end sabians. and sure it's a matter of taste, but there are very few sabians that are not even worth the time to find, when there are so many good cymbals from zildjian or bosphorus, and paiste(not THAT many but still).

well...just my $.02

If i'm off my rocker here, let me know too. If I'm correct, patents only last 7 years. After 7 years any company can have their stab at a design. So it may be quite possible that zildjian did have a patent on their grooves, but if so that's long gone.

Jeez... just like drummers.

Dude mentions the ZBX line & a debate ensures over brands.

The Sabian AAX line is excellent. :)

At least no one has brought Peart into the argument yet. :D
