Youtube okay, or seen as self-promotion?

What's the view of posting stuff here on Youtube?

* I've done it that way, because Youtube's the final destination for my stuff and that's how people are going to hear it, so there's some brain to getting it listened to there.

* Do you care that posting stuff on Youtube builds the number of views there?

* Maybe I should do the Soundcloud thing for the sake of mix comments, and then when it's properly cooked take it to Youtube?

Doesn't much matter, not like this forum is "driving views", Soundcloud tracks listens as well as Youtube tracks views... so... do whatever you want? I probably wouldn't personally post anything to Soundcloud or Youtube until it was "final" anyhow... unless they are "unlisted" or something.

Yeah, Dobro, it's blatant self promotion. That's not a bad thing. How else are you going to get your music heard?

The Soundcloud posts are fine, except for the times when you take files down, which makes for broken links. At the least, you might want to edit posts to indicate that a newer or final version is online and the old one is kaput.

As long as you don't start imploring people to sign up to a mailing list for your "free cheat sheet of top 5 mixing hacks free e-book" then no worries. I used to post to soundclick a hundred years ago, but post at soundcloud now. But anyway, who cares about views, posting to youtube doesn't bother me. Youtube getting clicks...might as well be anywhere else on the interwebs. But anyway, I notice you can just post mp3's of your mixes direct to this site. Might do that. Save all the 404 links at soundcloud from removing songs with updated mixes etc.

In this over saturated world, use any means necessary to get your stuff out. Even doing so , you’ll still have a small limited audience. At least with youtube you can build up subscribers little by little.

I see nothing wrong with that.

The only thing that irks me is the people with stuff on YouTube that just come here to promote their stuff.
What’s that called again? Drive by posters?

Yeah, but that's as good as the original, so there's no dirty involved. It was worth starting this thread just to see that one. Good work!

Youtube is a money making business and makes it's money from Ads as you know. So Youtube wants videos which attract lots of views for lots of advertising revenue.

The thing is, if nobody watches your video in the first few hours, then Youtube drops it and it doesnt show up in peoples searches, or if it does, it is way down the list.

So you need other types of promotion to get your video out there and seen by viewers.

My viewers are mostly people on forums. It works for that. And everybody knows where Youtube is, and I find that convenient for the people who aren't on forums.

Okay, got it. So I suppose offering free memberships in a fringe religious group would be out of the question as well, then?
Well, that might depend on how secure your compound is. ?

I upload my tunes 3 places right now. Soundclick which is where I started, Soundcloud which is limited and of course now Youtube. I started the YT channel when I was able to get my late 70's prog rock band Cheap Day Return's ancient Sony Black and White videos digitized as a place to share with friends and fans of us back in the day. When I finally started pushing the red button @ 9 years ago now , it was just audio so I made video collages for the first audio recordings I did and posted them there. I also posted some Back in the Daze videos and a few gigs I did with Dave Macias who was that 6 string gun slinger in CDR. Recently I finally figured out how to get a nice stereo recording on an iphone video via a usb mixer to a usb to lightning adapter...This enables quality audio when just doing the live stuff...very cool and what I am going to try and focus more on once I get this stinkin home remodel done. Probably will do the green screen thing and do a little deeper dive on the video editing. My next digital home for my audio visual efforts will be Tik Tok. This will finally allow me to become incredibly rich and world famous. Clearly, like our dear old friend Ken D Weber...I am poised for greatness! :laughings:

Gee.. that means it's Youtube's fault that I'm not getting lots a views and lots of money? They've buried my videos.. the man is keeping me down!

I recently saw a video about the JFK assasination that has garnered 3.9MILLION view in only 2 weeks. That's more than even Rick Beato gets! It's funny how certain subjects just draw in viewers.

Thumbnails so they say Rich. They are what attracts people.

And here I've been counting on my toenails. Keep 'em trimmed and gleaming.
