About Mercyful Fate/King Diamond...

I have Melissa.. I realize the importance of the band, but dammit I just can't get past the singing, no matter how much I try..

What's the secret? How do you approach this band and understand? If I can raise my drink to Venom and Slayer, then why the hell can't I do the same for Fate?

Cy

Cant get past the singing?...

Thats the best part!.... King Diamond's voice kicks ass.... very versatal..

BTW, I forgot "Abigail" on my list, its my favorite KD album..
"A Dangerous Meeting" off of "Dont Break the Oath", is my favorite song....

Awesome band, super talented and very, very under rated for lyrical content, musicianship and all around awesomeness that is missing from todays talent.

So.

2. Twisted Sister
3. Twisted Sister
4. Twisted Sister
5. Twisted Sister
6. Twisted Sister

AC/DC, Back in Black
Dio, Holy Diver
Iron Maiden, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
King Diamond, Abigale
Quensryche, Operation Mindcrime

This is a joke right??
PLEASE TELL ME THAT YOU ARE JOKING!!!!

Here is my list:

Van Halen
AC/DC
Scorpions
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
GNR
Whitesnake
Deep Purple
RATT
STRYPER

Top 10

Here are my top 10 picks in no certain order:

1. Metallica - And Justice For All
2. Queensryche – Empire
3. Fates Warning - The Spectre Within
4. Dream Theater - When Dream And Day Unite
5. Ratt - Out of the Cellar
6. Def Leppard – Hysteria
7. XYZ - self-titled
8. Killer Dwarfs – Dirty Weapons
9. Megadeth - Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?
10. Ozzy Osbourne - No Rest For the Wicked

I have a hard time with Ratt because I HATE GLAM with the eyeliner and the hairspray and stuff. And I hated each member of the band individually because they thought they were so hot...the fat drummer, the pussy bass player and the singer sux. BUT as a band they totally ROCKED!!! Warren Dimartini is undoubtedly one of the all time greats!!

In no particular order

Annihilator-Alice In Hell
AC/DC-Back in Black/Highway to hell (tie)
Iron Maiden-Piece of Mind
Flotsam & Jetsam-Doomsday for the Deceiver
Guns N' Roses-Appetite For Destruction
Kreator-Pleasure to Kill
Judas Priest-Stained Class/Sad Wings of Destiny (tie)
Agent Steel-Unstoppable Force
Metallica-Master of Puppets
Lääz Rockit-Know Your Enemy

from 1991= (honorable mention)
Dark Angel-Time Does not Heal (best thrash album EVER!)

I have nothing new to add to this which has not already been said, so I will just say that IMO Iron Maiden was the best thing going back then, followed by Judas Priest, and later Slayer.

Noone mentioned Motorhead though, I guess none of their albums as a whole were ever really that great, but they had their moments...

I think I'm the only one who loved Black Sabbath "Born Evil" with Ian what's-his-name (Gillian?) from Deep Purple... I just bought it on Cd not too long ago...

Some of the stuff I liked back then is great comedy now, remember Grim Reaper? LOL, "See you in hell"? Damn that dude was ugly, a close second in ugliness to the infamous UDO DIRKSCHNEIDER of Accept. I remember being astounded at their rawness....

I'm getting all nostalgic...

Yea Motorhead definately deserves mention...Killed by Death, oh yea...

Ian Gillian was a far better replacement for Ozzy than Ronnie Dio as far as I was ever concerned.

Hmm, I don't know what you would call Sepultura's Arise from 1991, I guess it's just as much Death Metal as it is Thrash, but to me that is also one of the finest albums ever put out. Long live the Cavalera brothers!

Arise was a good release. I have the live DVD, it has "Dead Embryonic Cells" vid.

It kicks a**.

No love for Accept here amongst the 80's metal heads???

We could be getting off-topic here:

My list still stands, though there are lots of mentions here so far that are definately in my top 20.;)

Hey, Accept made it on to my list. I love Balls To The Wall, Restless and Wild and Metal Heart. Those are all great albums.

But you didn't mention "london leather boys", or "Winter dreams".

I vaguely remember Metal Heart, what was on it?(obviously the song "Metal Heart".)
Jog my memory...

I feel like decking out in camoflauge.

I would of added Priest's "Sad Wings of Destiny" "Stained Class" and Queensryche's "Empire" but the 2 Priest albums came out in the late 70's and Empire came out in 90 or 91...

Great albums though....

London Leatherboys and Winterdreams were both on the album Balls To The Wall. Metal Heart was on the album titled Metal Heart.

Queensryche "Queen of the Reich", and Operation Mindcrime, also, I loved the first one from Anthrax "Armed and Dangerous".
Of course, Iron Maiden "Piece of Mind" "Number.." and"Powerslave" were hugely influential on a lot of people.
And we can't forget Bon Jovi, just kidding.
