hi,

this is a track for what will be the third album by my band, el hombre trajeado

basic tracks were done to 2" then transferred to cubase sx for guitar, synth, percussion, vocal overdubs and mixing with mostly uad-1 plug ins

anyway, let me know what you all think

The drums sound fantastic. The tune is very cool. I really like the meter. Now the production gigs. At about 20 seconds into to tune I hear an amp buzz come up. Ya gotta edit that bit out. I like the bass line line but it seems to me to be the weakest link in the tune. It sounds a little out of tune, to many finger squeaks and it's just not played agressively enough, ya know what I mean. Just my humble opinion sir.

oh, i love the drums. that snare is outstanding. overall very nice. drums are excellent recording. how'd you do those?

i like the bass too. what's with the buzz in the end? is that intentional?

Great groove on this one. I'd like to hear the vox a little more up front when they come in (& actually I'd like to hear more vox than just that one part), but overall good sound.

thanks for the opinions, guys

the buzz near the start and at the end isn't intentional, just sloppy muting of the distorted melodica track. this will be fixed.

the drums were recorded to 2" through an amek big desk in a commercial studio then transferred to the computer. the drums have actually had very little done to them, just a little subtractive eq and compression on the kick and snare

anyway, thanks for the input

there's another track up at

i was just about to vote this in for 'best home recorded drums ever' but now you've been disqualified! :) just kidding. sounds great anyway. something for me to strive for in my basement.

thought i'd give the settings for the drum sound. the key to this is to mic both the top and bottom of the snare (both sm57's) with the top mic running through the pultec on the uad-1, giving a slight boost around 5khz and the bottom mic running through a la2a then pultec with a dip at 60hz

add a little of your favourite 'tight' reverb (realverb pro on big snare setting here)

kick wise, we used two mics again, the close mic being an akg d12 (i think) and the other (about 3 feet away, in a 'tunnel') being a large diaphram condenser (can't remember which one, could have been a u87)

the recordings have a three overheads although they are barely in the mix at all

anyway, hope that this is of help to anyone!

Another to drool over that drum sound, here... those sound effects sound like they're from an 80's arcade game... Galaga, or something? Cool addition...

Nice song; vox could come up, that is if they're meant to be heard. Interesting style... don't know what to compare it to.

The second song: Similar, walky bass... disco-like drums... almost a jazz composition... nice synths. Cool stuff.

Yeah.. This sounds just great.. Too bad Metallica didn't post here for feedback for their third album. I'd tell 'em Kirk ruins Orion, and that Damage Inc. should be faster.

Anal? yes!
