I am interested in a synth, newish. I have some old stuff already.

Preferable rackmount is what I'm looking for, since I've run out of space in my studio and still have a place for clients to sit.

Pick from the following:

Clavia Nord Lead 2
Roland JP-8080
Waldorf Q Rack
Yamaha CS6R
Korg MS2000R
Access Virus C Rack

The Access Virus C seems like the one I'm gonna most likely go for, but some opinions would be nice.

I'm looking at price along with best sound.

I'm a Triton. 1080, gen module kind of guy.

Thanks

You are into rap/RnB, correct?

The Virus is your most versatile option, but will cost 3x more than a good Nord Lead 2 rack. So, your budget will allow.

I'd really suggest finding these models and spend some time trying them out. I've noticed you request others opinions a lot on this board- I'd really encourage you to get down and dirty with these items and see which works best for you. You have to remember your asking the opinions of non-professionals who are absolutely enamored with their gear, and are thrilled to even own a synth, so biased opinions will abound.

Plus, I've seen your gear list, and its quite extensive. Are you sure you need a new VA? Wouldn't soft synths save money and space?

Best of Luck

As far as synths go, All I have is a Roland JD-990, Yamaha TG-77.

Mind you they are very good for digital synths, but I have a few clients that are doing club-rap, kinda like the old C&C music factory, and Snap. So a Virtaul Analog is what I'm looking for.

Don't get me wrong, I love synths, and playing around with stuff at the guitar center, but.... I ask opinions of people for 1 reason. If I go into G.C. and see 10 different synths, I dont have the time to sit in front of each one and try them all out. So I'll ask peoples opinions so I can go in there and sit infront of 4 or 5 to try tme instead of 10. With me? ;)

And as for soft synths, I dont have the time or day to mess with them. I've tried a couple and latency sucks. So skip that idea. I'm mostly doing R&B and Rap. But I'm moving heavy toward House and techno. I have people in the DFW area comming to me to do remixes. Im also pursuing doing music for jingles. If you've seen my gear list, then you already know I've got some serious gear, but am still lacking more front end equipment.

Although I'm doing great with what I have, I still need some more front end gear. With that said, I'll probably get the Virus C Rack.

PS, I realize you are correct about most of the people here being NON-PROFESSIONAL (NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT we were all there at one time) and happy to own a synth. With over $35,000 invested in my studio, I'm still nowheres near being done. I'm drawing up a better isolation booth, redoing the lighting in the studio, more soundproofing, some mood setting lights ect, more preamps and better mics.

Now that I've probably pissed a few people off, yall can start the ripping back on me :)
