But who was/is as original as this man, combined 3/4 different styles into one, has been playing contiously for 20+ yrs, and can go naked on stage without being called an idiot?

Not one mention of Kenny Gradney from Little Feat or George Porter from the Meters? And no mention of any of the guys from Tull. John Glascock, Jefferey Hammon, Dave Peg. All great players.

Flea, however, can also be called an idiot without going onstage naked. He's got a good groove, but is pretty far from original.

No one's mentioned Sting? His solo stuff isn't the greatest, but his stuff with the Police is great. His fretless bass is just funky too.
My other fav's: JPJ, Paul McCartney, Stu Hamm, James Jamerson, David Labryere (sp?) (aka Dela, John Mayer's bassist, he's a good sturdy bass player)
