Not one mention of Kenny Gradney from Little Feat or George Porter from the Meters? And no mention of any of the guys from Tull. John Glascock, Jefferey Hammon, Dave Peg. All great players.

:D :D :D

Flea, however, can also be called an idiot without going onstage naked. He's got a good groove, but is pretty far from original.

Sorry, I can't resist a good play. :D :D

Bunch of great names. All I can do is round out the list.

Ron Carter
Another bob for Stanley Clarke
Larry Graham

Screw the pick: Tony Levin
In the pocket: JP Jones
Inventions: Chris Squire
Icing: Paul Macartney
Flat out wierd: Percy Jones
Whatever's required: Jeff Berlin
Off on his own: Jaco
Purposeful: Flea!

No one's mentioned Sting? His solo stuff isn't the greatest, but his stuff with the Police is great. His fretless bass is just funky too.
My other fav's: JPJ, Paul McCartney, Stu Hamm, James Jamerson, David Labryere (sp?) (aka Dela, John Mayer's bassist, he's a good sturdy bass player)

Anthony Jackson
Gary Willis
Dominique di Piazza
Brian Bromberg
...and,of course,Charles Mingus! ;)

but i do agree charles mingus is definatly my #2...only because you can rock out to claypool.
