I have an Epi Dot (about 6 years old) - it's well built, plays well and gives me the sounds I was looking for from a semi hollow body. Certainly the electronics are not the greatest - but it's a budget guitar and I knew that when I bought it. This is the only Epi I've owned - but I only have good things to say about it

go get yourself a yamaha pacifica for that $ range. much better than the squiers. Also check out some low end HAMERS.

I also have the Epi Firebird that's pretty good though I did have to change all the crappy hardware on it.

Yeah a friend of mine had an Epi firebird with 'gold' plated hardware that all flaked off and it looked like sh!t. He was pretty happy with the way it played though

I love everything about my Sheraton II except the toggle switch - the weight, feel, sound & look of the guitar are all excellent but the toggle often fails to select the bridge p/up. I'll have to get it seen to I suppose.

Gotta agree with you on the Sheraton II-they are sweet guitars, mine is the ebony black model. I don't care for the toggle switch at all either, too bad its such a pain to have to work on the electronics through the 'F' holes or I'd change it out for a better one.......:(

I inherited an Epi LP when my father passed away. He was so proud when he bought that guitar...I'm an LP guy and he wanted to be as well. I didn't have the heart to tell him that his Epi couldn't hang...

After some minor fret work, the Epi proved to be a great playing guitar. There was a hump at the body/neck joint. The pickups are lame but I will be leaving the guitar as is. I think of my father every time I look at it or play it. I really miss him :(

A former bandmate of mine had a Epi ES-thingy and a LP custom.

Both were good guitars, but the ES really shined. I have a mid-80's Gibson LP custom and every Epi LP I've played feels pretty lackluster by comparison. My buddy's Epi LP Custom was a good guitar, though. If I didn't have the Gibson I'd probably concider one of the higher end Epi's.

I've played a number of the lower end ones in the store and though I always wanted to like them I never really did.

Happy hunting!

I agree with earlier posts about the low quality of the electronics in general.
A better buy would be a HAMER studio (the offshore version ) for best bang for the buck. With 2 SD's mine sounds way better than the Epi Lp's I tried. Also...they look like a DC Paul and I dig that. I actually A/B'd mine with a PRS and ...sorry charlie but the offshore Hamer sounded better than the PRS IMHO

I like them

I have had my trusty Epi LP Gold Top for about 13 years now. It is nice and solid, sounds great, and I've beat the hell out of it pretty good and it just does not give up! Made in Korea, I think I paid like $549 for it...

On the other side of the coin, I grabbed a Epi SG Special type,,,made in China, very inexpensive...I suppose it could be useful for something, but it's extremely light, bolt on neck,,,,,

I own a HAMER. http://hamerguitars.com/?fa=detail&mid=901&sid=185

I worked for a music store that sold them and I got the first one they got in. I paid less than 400$ for it and it was selling for the high 6s in the store. They got another one in after that one that was pretty nice but mine is the darker grey quilt that I love. I had this guitar set up and the frets worked. To be honest I have been baby sitting a Gibson LP DC for the last 3 weeks while my friend moves and I like it but not for over a grand more. They sound and feel different but as to which ones better. I am biased towards the one I have owned for 5 years now. Check them out. You won't be disapointed.
