Jetphase,

You are full of all kinds of interesting info here.

What is the d-35? Is it old? I cant seem to find info on it.

If I recall correctly.... here's the lineage...(skipping a few models like the D12(E)

AKG D12--->AKG D25--->AKG D30--->AKG D35--->AKG D45--->AKG D112...

some of these were being produced nearly simultaneously...the D25, which is one of "my" favorite mics, is the suspension mounted version of the original D12....

these AKG's have been used by everyone from the Beatles, to Led Zeppelin, to The Who, to most modern rock, country, soul, and even jazz artists...FWIW, i'm not a huge fan of the D112's, but a lot of people get great results with them...

Fletcher at mercenary would have a bit more definitve answer, i'm sure...you can contact him at www.mercenary.com ...

as always, YMMV....

Hi ya Jet... welcome to this forum... it's quite a bit different from HC!

I like the M160, but I can't imagine it being used for overheads... it doesn't have a lot of extended upper range, sounding considerably "dull or warm" (depending on the application!)

yeah...i thought i'd "stop by" and check it out...it seems a bit more "discussion oriented than HC, but who knows..i just got here :)

...you doing ok ? getting lots of "tape time" in ?

as for the 160's....get a great drummer, put him in a "lively" room (just about anything but wood), set up the OH's a few feet higher than normal, and compress em pretty hard (i'm sure you know that the ADRS, 1176's, DBX160's, and Distressors are great for this...esp. the DBX 160's and 162's, which seem to add a bit more brightness and "immediacy" to the mics...LA4's are good to, BTW)...make the drummer hit hard, and it'll pretty much RAWK ! ...just add a good kick mic (i like the D25 for this) and you've got a great "rock groove" sound....

as always, YMMV :)

Jet,

How does the M260 compare to the M160?

Taylor

the M160's are bi-directional and a bit "warmer sounding (to my ears) than the 260's....

the 500's are nice too, but seem to have a bit more of a "hi-mid" peak than the others...

YMMV,

I dont...i hate mics(probly cuz i cant afford good ones), the only thing i use them for is vocals...i use fruity loops or the drum machine on my BR-532...i wish i had an electronic set, but i dont, so i dont record drums.
