If I recall correctly.... here's the lineage...(skipping a few models like the D12(E)
AKG D12--->AKG D25--->AKG D30--->AKG D35--->AKG D45--->AKG D112...
some of these were being produced nearly simultaneously...the D25, which is one of "my" favorite mics, is the suspension mounted version of the original D12....
these AKG's have been used by everyone from the Beatles, to Led Zeppelin, to The Who, to most modern rock, country, soul, and even jazz artists...FWIW, i'm not a huge fan of the D112's, but a lot of people get great results with them...
