Sir Cool of Coronado
I would like to eval the Dorsey mod. Problem is, I dont have the money nor the desire to buy the stuff (right now) just to see how I like it.

Is there anyone out there who would like the mod done on their mic? I'll do it free of charge in exchange for letting me try out the mic for a week.

Any takers?

Thats a fat deal, folks. Are you pretty good with soldering and stuff? I'd be willing to go ahead and order one just to let you do it if it comes down to it, but you'd have to wait til thursday... let me know...

As a matter of fact, just hold off til thursday, and I'll order one from MF or whoever, and ship it to ya when I get it. Probably total of 10 days to 2 weeks from today, all said and done. Whatcha think?

sounds good....yeah, I'm pretty good with solderng and stuff ;)

You can have it shipped direct to me if you like..I think the SCM900 is something around 70 bucks or so...Scott's board and FET are 20 bucks (a very good deal), and the passives will cost you another 20 bucks (I may have a few laying around here though, lemme check). I'll get a parts list together for you.

I'm in no hurry, so take your time...shoot me an email.

OT: I talked to Bo, he's sending you the CD rightaway.

Peace.

Where can I get a copy of the info for doing the dorsey mod?

Folks, if you're not too anal about using the exact same mod that Scott Dorsey designed, you might just buy an MXL 1006. This is from a thread on rec.audio.pro:

>Did I read correctly in a post here from about a week ago that the new
>Marshall 1006 large diaphragm condender comes stock with electronics
>very similar to the mod that Scott published some months ago? Does
>anyone know how similar, or if it all? Is this mic a rebadge of the
>V57 that they only sold for a brief period of time?

If the 1006 is a rebadge of the V57, the overall circuit is very similar to
the one I used, which of course is a standard circuit that a lot of mike
manufacturers have used for decades. They don't use very good capacitors,
but I understand the need to keep costs down there. They do use a symmetric
drive stage and they do use a low noise input FET.

They also use a DC-DC converter to polarize the capsule at a higher voltage.
When I tried this, I found it emphasized unit-to-unit variations on the
capsules so I decided it was a bad idea in spite of improving the S/N.
The guys at Marshall are apparently selecting capsules at the higher voltage
and seem to have less trouble than you would if you added the same circuit
as an aftermarket mod.

Thanks dude I just Emailed Amethh volunteering my 2001 just now, I feel like such a fool now, I hope he doesnt think Ive gone mental.:D

Nah, you havn't gone mental...
I havn't been to the BBS in a while and was suprised to see this thread resurfacing. I did the mod to MarkH's mic and it turned out really good. I only did the mod to see what it sounded like. So that said, I dont think I would be interested in doing it again...unless you want to do the Royer mod, in which case I would be more than happy to do the work. Let me know! Talk to you soon. I tried emailing you back with the private message system, but your box is full?
