You know you're a crap drummer when...

Anyone that makes fun of Phil Rudd is a tard. Case closed. It's not even debatable. He does exactly what's needed and does it very well. AC/DC would sound fucking stupid with a bunch of flam-diddles and ratamacues thrown in. :D

I too have seen Philgood play - in person - and the dude is full on pwn. I am not worthy.

Well, this is almost exactly the reaction I expected.

First you mouth off about two of the most respected drummers in the industry as though you were above them even though they've had accolades for decades, then you make a gross assumption about the talents of someone you've never even heard play.

Yeah, you sound like a seasoned vet!

Yep! I'm the best drummer in my band when I'm the only one up on stage. Sorry my opinion does not match your expectations. IMO when compared to Metallica, Buddy Rich, Max Roach, Bill Ward ETC ETC the two drummers in question do have talent but when it comes to fills and fancy things of that nature they lack in that area. As far as a good steady beat, very good. PERIOD!

Lol @ Metallica.

I'm kind of surprised that you don't like Metallica. Back in the day he was good. I haven't listened to anything after the And Justice For All CD. One was a pretty cool song I think.

Point taken, but have you heard the difference of someone like Terry Bozzio, who can masturbate up a storm in a solo, but in Missing Persons played the most simple beats and did exactly what the song called for? Have you heard Dave Weckl knock out beats and polyrhythms that would kill mere mortals and suddenly he lays waaay back for Madonna?

That's what a pro does. A pro knows when to hold back. Phil Rudd's style, known as "four on the floor" is his whole drumming philosophy. No bullshit, just play. I have to respect that in the same way I can respect Peart even though I don't hold him in the same esteem I did when I was much younger. I don't really like Charlie Watts, but he's the drummer for the Stones! He must be doing SOMETHING right!

Lars sucks as a drummer. Even he'll tell you he's not a drummer, he's just the guy behind the drums.

And sorry if I seemed egotistical. That wasn't my intent, but Hot for Teacher is no simple beat if you listen to all the parts being played. I'm usually out of breath by the end.

Cool, to be honest I can't play Hot For Teacher. It is a good song tho. Also as I said, I'm the best drummer in my band, I meant I don't consider myself very good. I can keep a beat but the fancy stuff is hard for me. Stay cool.

I do like Metallica. But I don't consider Lars a great drummer. He's a total goof hack. He's not even in the same league as Rudd.

As simple as AC/DC drumming is, it just wasn't the same with Chris Slade behind the kit. Put Rudd back on the throne, and ahhhhh, AC/DC again.

We missed you at westfest this year dude. Hopefully we'll see you next year. :)

Yeah, unfortunately I had other stuff that kept me from going. Next year for sure. I might even bring the American Idiots out there with me!:D

Lol @ Metallica.

+1

I like Metallica, but I can still acknowledge that Lars Ulrich, for the most part, sucks.

For all the money they throw into production, virtually every recording they've ever made has been marred by poorly played poorly recorded shitty sounding drums.

That said. I actually thought the drums on Death Magnetic were pretty solid.

Like most casual Metallica fans, I only like their first 3 or 4 albums. I lost all respect for Lars when I read that his drum tracks are spliced together from like 12 different takes. His live performances back up my belief that he generally sucks.

That's how I am. I loved their early stuff, especially Justice. But then I learned that he spliced a lot of his drum parts together. It's no wonder that they never play "Dyer's Eve" live.

In note to Death Magnetic sounding solid... that's because Rick Rubin wouldn't let Lars spice his drum parts... he made him play shit that sounded right in the first place...

Second note, Phil Rudd is my Idol.... :D

You know you're a shit drummer...when you're the bass player! Now I just play everything myself and am equally brutal at it all, so there's no need to worry about it.

And yeah, Lars is generally considered useless the world over.

You know you're a crap drummer when you can't play better then the drummer for AC/DC or Van Halen. Same basic beats for almost every song. But they are millionaires.

Learn and play "Hot For Teacher" from Van Halen on drums, then we'll talk about how Alex Van Halen is on drums...
I'm not saying he's an insane drummer, but he's WAAAYYY superior to the AC/DC guy (I have the same point of view on this one though).

so much easier than having a drummer though, yeah?

Don't get me wrong, I think HFT is an awesome song. He stepped up his game on that one. I love Diver Down and Women And Children First and then 1984. I liked Sammy Hagar, but he was no David Lee. Maybe one of these days I'll pull out the 1984 album and give HFT a shot.
