Look at that page, and remember: 9.30SKR = 1$

SP C1 3990SKR ~ 450$
SP T3 12995SKR ~ 1400$
MXL V67G 3995SKR ~ 450$
MXL 603S 3995SKR ~450$

Damn.. I could fly to the US, buy a V67 from Sam Ash, and fly back to Sweden for less than 450$

Ja ja, I can hear you... at least somebody is importing that stuff so you may have a chance to try it out. Here, on the other side of the bay nobody has even heard about Studio Projects & co... "Home recording" seems to be an unknown concept in Finnish audio business. Thank god for Thomann...

BTW, how about FMR? Is RNC (this is starting to sound like an episode of ER) being sold in Sweden? I´ve been searching the damn thing all over Europe but for no avail...

At least you guys have better health care.

Absolutely! But even without the sales tax, the prices on some products are just ridicously much higher over here. I mean, it's not like we're paying one person to bring the stuff over in a small boat.

I'm seriously considering importing some cool gear and selling it at some decent prices.

On the other hand, some European equipment like Genelec monitors and Beyer mics are usually less expensive here than in the US.

Cheers

Do it, Henrik! Become the price-cutting importer of U.S. products for western Europe. If possible, have your operation up and running before I move back to Berlin with my German wife.

That's funny!
A row boat no doubt, based on the prices.
Ya'll get screwed on import taxes. But then again, so do we. I doubt a good panasonic or sony DVD player costs $350-$400 in Japan.

I think you should become an importer.

The RNC is being sold in Sweden... call JAM at +46 86732323 or +46 8673 21 23, fax +46 8673 21 22 or mail them at jam@jam.se. Talk to Jerker and maybe he can help you, he's a cool guy.

Ackshully...import taxes are only about 4%. Still not enough to explain how prices can sometimes be the double over here compared to the US.

Well, I wasn't considering becoming a full time importer, more like small scale selling stuff I myself enjoy using in my studio. We'll see. I'd probably get screwed over by the big guys.

You guys are forgetting the V.A.T. If you take that into consideration, the difference is not quite as big anymore.

We have the same problem here in Brazil. I just got a V67 here for $900 bucks in our currency (around $300 american dollars..) and I'm just pissed off 'cause I moved fom the U.S. less than a year ago, and I couldn't buy everything that I needed to start my studio, and now, I have to buy stuff at this ridiculous prices...
:(

Did you know that Alan Hyatt is opening an European office in the UK?

I would wait for that before getting any SP gear...

Excellent thread you posted there!

BTW, I checked the Helios site a couple of days ago and thought the prices here in The Netherlands are way too high too.
My brother will be in the US in December and I'm planning to ask him to bring me back a B1.
I checked this yesterday: One can bring €175 worth of goods on the plane from outside the EU without having to pay taxes.
With $80 for a B1 that would work out great.

Apart from that I think it is great to hear about the plans of opening a European office.

Nope. I think the worst example I've seen are the Mackie HR824 monitors. In the States they are around $1000/pair - in Sweden they are around $1600/pair, excluding sales tax/VAT.

Also the Shure SM-7 can be found in the US for $299 - in Sweden I think they're around $450, again excluding VAT.

OK, the Swedish prices I mention are list prices, and the US prices I've found at online stores like 8th Street. But still those items are 50-60% more expensive over here, and I just can't see why.

You know what!? I'll start thinking about import stuff to brazil... maybe I can sell them cheaper...

Yeah, but I wonder what the situation is with the big guys, I mean if they have an exclusive deals for the territory of Sweden. In that case I guess the manufacturers can't sell their stuff to others, like me. And even if they don't I guess I run the risk of having the big guys sending over some people to break my knees...

We'll see about this whole thing. Right now I'm starting up my studio. Becoming a retailer will be a thing for the future, and nothing I'd do to make a lot of money.

Cheers
