You Call Yourselves Drummers......

Fortunately you don't have to be an incredible drummer to write musical and effective drum parts.

No, but it sure is good to watch someone who has refined their craft to that level.

And I do, coincidentally, still absolutely call myself a drummer. Guys like this just expand my definition of what is possible, and send my ass to the woodshed. It's good to scope out stuff like this, or just anything that you think is excellently executed and enjoyable, for inspiration every now and again.

I still can't grok a lot of Elvin, or Jack D either, but they keep me striving to grow and progress and study.

You know, you can sort of fake your way through a jazz drum solo.

But now this stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9TirIsC5ZQ

No faking that shit! :)

Or this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQ0iveh3dr0

Or this, my favorite corp! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXabeOfI6XU

Post the Jazz solo that you faked your way through. I would like to see that shit. I bet you sound really square. Because that is generally how drum corps guys sound when they try to play jazz. Square. As is not swingin.

I ought to know. I played in drum corps when I was in high school. After that I went and studied Jazz.

The essence of Jazz is understanding musics place within a form. It's quite a bit of a different undertaking than playing a wholly composed piece like drum corps shit or sympohonic pieces or whatever. It takes much more than just drum corps chops to be Elvin Jones.

Drum Corps stuff is cool but you are just a cog in a big impressive machine. Jazz players got the soul bro. If you got it post it otherwise I have seen enough DCI and this is not the place and no it does not make you a special snowflake if you played in the corps.

You are treading a line by trashing one form of music for another. This is something that I never see good musicians do. In a way, it makes you look kind of young and inexperienced.

How the hell do I put up a custom avatar? I can't figure it out.

You increase your post count to 250, I think, maybe 500.

It's 500.

And that doesn't mean you can start posting nonsense so you can put up a picture of your snare drum. There's a filter that will make your computer explode if you do.

and three hillbillies will show up at your door and give you a good butt peein'.

Be careful dishing out the neg dumbfuck! ;)

I studied jazz in college. Blah blah blah........It is a genre full of a bunch of hacks, just like every other genre of music. Having played in both, I can say with certainty that the drum corps guys practiced MUCH more, and many of these guys went on to very nice music careers.

Yeah. Like greg Bissionette. He is a great Jazz player who doesnt fake it. Tommy Lee who played the corp cannot fake a jazz solo cause he never has studied jazz. When I played in the dumb corps it was a bunch of fags.

Ooh I am running scared because you called me a dumbfuck....

LOL

Drum Corps are for fags like yourself who can't rock.

Oh. And post that jazz solo you faggot. And I will trounce your square ass chops.
