Hi folks. I want a mixer that allows me to send the mixed signal into my sound card then back to the mixer for monitoring. I also want the ability to control monitor and headphone volumes separately without effecting the volume of the signal going out to the audio card. Any recommendations on what I need to look for in a mixer and possibly a general explanation of how to achieve it would be appreciated. Thanks

What do you have for a sound card? You may want to think about getting a mixer that also functions as an audio interface (bypassing the sound card you have).
How many channels do you need? What's your budget?
I just picked up a Mackie ProFX12 which does everything you mention above, and also is a 2-channel USB interface.

M Audiophile. 2 ins, 2 outs, 2 midi. I may replace it with an EMU that has the same in/ outs. I'd rather go straight into the card. I'd like to keep the budget under $500 but it's not firm.

And channels aren't very important as it will be me recording everything 1 track at a time. A few extra channels wouldn't hurt in case I wanted to mic an acoustic and vocals at once or had some friends over.
