Yet another "is this OK" post

Hi,

Just starting out getting my home studio up and running and was wonderign if anyone could advise me on my setup.

So far I have:

PC running CuBase SE (spec is fine)
Tascam US-122
Behrigner C1 condensor mic
Various Dynamic Mics

Now that gets me recording but I could do with some advice on what to do about getting the sound out (and any other advice on setting up what I have)

My plan was to use my Denon hi-fi amp to power some monitor speakers using the line out (or monitor) on the Tascam. If I am using this amp I should go for Passive speakers right? I will be using my hi-fi speakers untill I can save up to buy some monitor speakers.

Will this setup be OK for an entry level setup? I will just be recording elec and acustic Guitar, mandolin, and vocals for now.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yes, if you are running through an amp, you'll want passive speakers. The line out on the 122 is what you should run to the amp.

In general, studio monitors are designed to provide a flatter and more accurate frequency response when compared to consumer speakers (which are usually hyped in the bass and treble, with scooped mids). You can learn to mix on just about any speakers, once you identify their deficiencies. Use what you have for now and save up for some monitors.
