Jamal,
Is it my system or did you mix the drums to the left?

Cool song but you're right it sounds distorted... like overly!!:D

RF

yeah...there's some mix problems from a lob-sided mix to thin guitars to harsh vocals. Dang...those left sided drums don't work for me....definately couldn't have been intentional.

so...what was supposed to happen at the 2 min. mark?

its pissin me off.....i dont know the cd i burned sounds ok..?....do you guys mix stuff differently for mp3??...or maybe i need to lay off all the damn.."expanders"..and exciters on my recorder...oh well....see if i can fix it...

Good song-I like the opening guitar riff alot-the melody flows nicely. Good vocal performance as well-you nailed that really fast vocal section -good work! It sounds like you put alot of time into your drum programming-now you just need to get them centered in the mix-and I would suggest some verb-I havent heard too many midi drums that sound good dry--especially the cymbals-a little verb might help cover them cymbal sounds espescially. I also think you could stand to lower the overall volume-this might be the loudest mp3 I've ever heard!

I've wondered this too but I think mp3 just brings out the problems in the mix more-after all theres many great sounding mp3's -by posters on this board as well as our favorite songs that sound pretty damn good when converted. Seems like a good mix will survive the conversion-I still need work in this area too-I'm always surprised how bad my own mp3's sound :(.

BTW-your voice sounds a little like john lennon

Try your hand at mixing without all those doo dads and as little EQ as possible. You'll end up with a better mix than this for sure.

Place the drums straight up and down for starters and dont compress them so much.

What I do when I get a bad mix that I just cant seem to fix is:
1.take a day off from the song.

2.when I go back to re-mix it I turn the volume knobs all the way down, set all of the eq back to flat and turn the pan knobs straight up and down on every channel.Effects also completely off of course.

3.Then I gradually start over at a decent listening volume and start pulling the faders back up.

4.First the Drums, bass guitar, vocals, cymbals, and bring the gits up last and mold them around the vocal.(building around the vocal is probably wrong in a lot of peoples eyes but it gives me decent results). You get the idea though, just start completely over from scratch.

I think everyone would agree that the secret to a successful mix is to lay great tracks that dont need much work and enhancement from things like "expanders, exciters, compressors" etc....

I'm getting distortion (clipping) on the vocals out of my right speaker. If you're using a digital meter, I think they can be deceiving...I've had to learn that the hard way. Sometimes the peaks register so fast, they're hard to catch.
Having said that, I do dig the song. Very cool vocal quality, and high-energy playing. Drums were not bad, sounds like you've centered them now.
Overall, good writing and playing...and like most of us, a bit to learn about recording.

stratomaster:...thats actually me playing o roland elec set...yer right itsALL WAY TOO LOUD...now im sorta embaressed to even have posted it ...its a real departure from the stuff i usuallly come up with..and i absolutely love that fast vocal part on the end!!. and you are without a doubt the only person who has ever heard john lennon in my voice(i just wish you heard more of him in the lyrics.).lol

kramer:..i think im doing this mixing completely wrong...because all i have is 2 band eq on eadh channel..but in the master sextion it has all the "q band bass cut filter wierd stuff"...but to master i have to be bouced down onto the 2 stereo tracks..so i cant adjust each track indiv..??? ive read the damn book on this recorder twice already...and i think i will swear off all the "expanders"..as well..

mkg:..yep its all digital and the damn screen is about 2x3 inches..(man i sound like a winer).lol...really all boile down to and ive said it lots before ..i have no patience...that is my biggest prob i think but im glad you dug the song in such a grotesqe form....thanks

hey i remixed this today if anyone has the time.. i think i got the volume down to a reasonable level..and none of all the little mastering bell-n-whistles either...anyway thanks

Sounds a lot better dude.Placing the drums straight up and down helped things out a LOT.Nice vocal riffing near the end of the tune. The mix was actually good enough to allow me to listen to the SONG without being distracted by the previous problems.

Nice song and a BIG improvement on the mix job...it only gets better, the more stuff you mix,the better you'll get. It's refreshing to see someone who is consumed with recording and wants help without any ulterior motive.

I noticed you said you were embarrased that you even posted the song after the comments you got.....Dont be thinking like that man!You cant get help if you dont ask for it.;)

Keep on recording!:D

Its a cool song...should have all the teens going crazy. I like your voice it really sounds cool. I'd like to hear a little verb and a better eq on the drums. They are programmed really well but they are kinda flat. I actually liked the drum sound better on the first version, just didnt like em on the left side. I like the sound of the vocals better on the first version as well. What are you running your guitar into?? Its a bit harsh and I am not hearing any cabinet "thump"
All of that being said I really do like the tune!!

Keep Em Coming
The King

I thought it sounded fine!

Nice singing and playing.
The instruments are nice and tight!

Good drumming!

I liked it.

Best to you,
Pete

Hey...woah...I am not criticizing the playing or the singing because I think that all the elements are there for this to be the next blink-182 day or whatever. I just feel that the guitar SOUND is a bit harsh and sterile...I was just wondering what you are using. Thats just my opinion because I like to hear the wood of the cabinet come thru, if that makes sense. The vocal delivery is right on!!:p

solid song and playing... second version sounds much more balanced and pleasing. try to switch guitar with vocals volume wise. I agree with KE on guitar sound. fun tune
cheers

oh ye maybe onother guitar track would be good to put on the other side of the mix.

Real good song. Nice playing. I especially liked the rapid fire vocals on the bridge. I like your singing voice.

I heard a little clipping on the vocals. The drums are way to one side. The vocals and guitar to some extent are a small bit harsh. When the first chorus hits at :39 (and at 1:22) I wished the guitar didn't hold that long chord - I would liked it to keep firing away. You did it the third time through.

You have TripleM disease. This prevents one from effectively EQing. I have it worse than you.

Real catchy song.

the second one

sound's alot better than the first, good tune. i can't think of who this remind's me of??? i'll think of it sooner or later.

anyway your mixing is way better than what im doing!

thank's for the listen man!

peace
