ok, no one, NO ONE offeres a better tom rack mouting system. Tama's mounting system (found on starclassics and rockstars) is ok, but still, it only letts you move the drum a certain amount. The ball-joint mounts that come standard on ALL yamaha's, cheap or costly, let you put the drum just about anywhere, no matter how cluttered your surrounding rack peices are. Nice paint job for the money, not a sonor paint job tho (beautiful!!!).
Other than Tama's starclassic models (which are too damn expensive for the sound you can achieve out of any set with the right tuning), yamaha makes the best for the money. i have a stage custom, but i would have to say (because of the customizing - any paint job you can come up with and any sizes you want) the maple custom absoloute are the best.
Zildjian makes my favorite crashes, hats and bells, but i always loved paiste's chinas, rides and splashes.
