Hi. I was suggested by a studio mate to get a pair of these as they where claimed to be very flat and accurate.

What do you think ?

They're neither flat nor accurate, but if your ears like them and find them usable, then go for it....!

It depends on the price. They probably better than most $200-$300 monitors but the price on them has been getting crazy lately. I've seen pairs go for $500!

If you can't get them cheap, then don't bother.

Even if you can get them cheap, don't bother.

They are no longer in production, and the parts are impossible to find. They are not even kind of flat. They cause massive ear fatigue. You need to mix on them for at least six months (and I mean mix a lot) before you can trust yourself on them, and even then you can not trust yourself very much.

In short, NS-10s suck. Big time.

I mixed with them for years, and getting away from them is one of the best things I have ever done. I can mix much longer without getting a headache. That is a good thing, in my mind. How about yours?

So if you want an obsolete piece of crap which was only ever popular because of a whole lot of hype, then get the NS-10s. Otherwise, get something which is actually flat.

And by the way, the guys who made NS-10s popular (Bob Clearmountain and the like) NEVER used them for tracking, only for mixing, and even then they used others monitors to check their mix. This is one of the things which were missed by so many people in the NS-10 craze. I always laugh when I see people using NS-10s as their only monitor.

If you can make something sound good on NS10's, you can make it sound good on anything.

Or so I hear....... I've never used them, but I've heard there a waste of time.

By cheap, I mean CHEAP. Whenever I want to hear my mix through bad monitors, I just run them through my shitty $90 KLH monitors and get relatively the same effect. I would NEVER pay $200-600 for NS-10s!

In the price range you are looking at, I would take a serious look at some YSM1's
