Some new ones on the shelf for the sub-$1000 range.

Yammie NS10/Actives??
They kept the infamous White-cones for those that want the "look" of the NS10.
I didn't listen long, i was annoyed at the GC monkey-crew setup which is common at this paticular GC....geez..

$400 for the small ones, ~$750 for the large.

I thought the small ones needed the sub, it sounded ok with the sub.however only the left monitor was plugged in?
the large ones were ok, both of these were plugged in and had some volume.
I'll have to go to the other GC that has the good setup and hear them. $300 is $300 bucks....thats a lot in my small studio!

I still liked the Dyns better, ymmv. but at $1000 they better sound good.

How is the bass extension on the Dynaudio's? Good enough, or sound like something is missing down there? I'm trying to decide between the Bm5A and the BM6A right now. Currently I have to mix in a pretty small room, but the next monitors I buy I would like to be keepers that will stand up even in a bigger room.

They Yammies are intriguing, but I'm not sure I trust them.

hell I've never heard the 6A's.
but the differences between the two had me reading to understand the drastic price difference.

i think its for real, the 24db crossover and added power etc. the materials seem to be fairly close (speaker builds).
i could understand someone needing the extra volume/power of the 6A's. i couldn't justify it for myself.
i also don't plan on expanding my studio and the 5A would work for me.
the 5A's won't shake the room...

i admit love the sound of the 5a's...probably the best ones I've heard to date(which is very limited...not worth much to anyone but meself :D )

imo, when you get into the better stuff the differences are less. its not like going from plastic pc speakers to your first monitors.(huge shift). minor things, personal tastes...and $$.

so for $1,000....especially $1700
i'd have to take 'em home for a serious 28 day testdrive, including mixes and blindfolds and everything else that goes with dropping $.

seriously, i'd like to hear how they've compared to the Yorks?
and is the 5a's a better buy than the 6p's? about the same price...and I have a amp.

and then posters say "you'll need a sub!"..then i get thinking of the Blue Skys again, that include a designed in sub and very, very nice too.

Reggie....if money was not a hold back..it'd be BM6A's! thats an easy! :p
Maybe check out the BlueSkys ProDesk or the System Ones....too

Yeah, the Blue Skies look nice, but I fear having a sub in my room of death. Bass is a tricky she-devil to control.

BTW, money is definitely an object, but I am willing to wait and get something that I will be happy with for a long time. Maybe I can find a place where I can buy the Bm5a's, try them out, and exchange for the 6A's if they aren't enough for me.

yeah. i actually saw it as a RTA newbie.

the pink noise was playing..ssssshhhhhhhhhhh....

and the sub was on.

and below ~60hz or80....

the graph-meter on my pc monitor was just oscillating...i mena way up to 0db then disappearing to nothing...then back up, then back down....

none of the other freq's did that.

it was really cool to watch....can't say I heard it, but thats the tricky stuff it plays, i guess.

I'm getting the BM5A's, the BM6'A is double the price... I would love to have them but too much to spend and have other items to buy, must be very nice but for home project the 5's should be more than enough, however I was doing some testing at my local GC and I tried several, the 5's were the best, the high and lows were just perfect, with a lot of presence, but then I notice I missed something, I play together the 5's with the new yamahas HS80 and found that the middle is in there so I'm thinking I may buy the yamahas to use for some other stuff and maybe to complement that middle section, just a though but was very nice to see how they complemented, of course the 5's are way much better in my personal opinion than the yamaha's but still the yamaha is a good value. :)

You can get yourself a pair of genelecs in a similiar price range man. They sound 10 times better then the yamahas, dont believe the old hype on ns10's being a standard, not really valid in this day and age. For 1200 bucks you can get the genelec 8030a's, some of the best nearfields ive ever heard.
