Yamaha KX88 vs CME-UF8

I've just missed a chance ro buy a KX88 for $200. Somebody else got it before I did. The others on Ebay sometimes went too high.

I was wondering if someone could give me an opinion on the newer Chinese CME-UF8 ... I thought about this one too, but really don't want to buy something I would feel buyer's remorse later. It's not easy to buy online and return later, due to restocking fees and shipping cost.

I have heard many good things about that controller (CME) and a good value too.
 
I am also looking at Peavy DPM C8 . I heard the keys are made of wood. Could someone comment on this keyboard ? Some guy think it's worth only about $150 these days.

I played one priced at $200 (it was absolutely filthy though) at my local used instrument emporium. The action was good but the board itself is a MONSTER - both huge and heavy. Unless you have the dosh to hire two beefy guys to transport it to and from sessions and gigs it gets disqualified on pure weight alone...
 
A friend of mine gigs with a CME keyboard and likes it. I haven't used one myself though, so I can't speak from personal experience.

KX88's are solid keyboards, I have one in my studio that I use as my main controller. It's really heavy to gig with though, I did that once and only once. I now use a Roland A-70 for gigging.

The Peavey C8's are hugely heavy and gigantic keyboards, not terribly practical for gigging unless you have roadies. I've used a C8 extensively, although I've not owned one. The big problem with the C8's is the front panel buttons become very unreliable. They either won't trigger or will double trigger. I remember it being a big problem, so I personally would avoid the C8.

There are a couple of Roland 88 key controllers that are pretty good, the A-90 and A-80. The A-90 is the more recent of the two. If you can find a deal on either of those you'd probably be happy with them.

But for a new controller at a reasonable price, the CME line seems to be one to consider these days.
 
IMO for a good action controler.... used yamaha S80/90
the CME's synth keys are great but not the piano keys, but about the same as the maudio88piano key one

how does the s80 compare with the s08? Is the action similar? I tried the s08 and really liked the action, so if the s80 is anywhere near the action of the s08, then I might have to invest in one.
 
The keyboard action on both the S80 and S90 is pretty good, I've played both a lot. One of the nicer weighted actions in my opinion.
 
I own a S80 - great feel, fun to play. I've been banging on it for three years now, and the thing rocks. The S90 feels good too, but to be honest, I'm keeping my S80. The S90 has a newer action which is heavier in the low end, and lighter at the top end. The S80 is even all the way through which I believe Yamaha did for a good balance of piano action, and good action for synth sounds. Scouring the Internet, I've seen a lot of people that prefer the S80 action over the S90.
 
I've been using a KX-88 since 1989 and haven't felt the need for getting anything else. I grew up playing Steinway grands so I'm used to and prefer that kind of weighted action, which the KX does a good job of recreating.

I only wish I had the room for a Steinway grand these days.
