Software - Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
Still trying to decide what software to use with my DSP Factory board. You can download demos for both Minnetonka MxTrax and CW Pro 9.0. Sent Minnetonka an email requesting the demo on CD. Got it in about 2 days.
What little bit I know so far:
Minnetonka - Seems to be a very good program. Wish I had a 21" monitor to see more on the screen. Still I really like the layout. I'm not into MIDI so the fact that MxTrax doesn't do MIDI is OK. Yet, what if (what if, what if) one day I wanted to play with MIDI? Either AMS or BH PhotoVideo had it on sale for $199, don't remember which.
Cakewalk Pro 9.0 - No complaints yet. Yes it does MIDI. Brochure says so but haven't tried it. One thing that bothers me and it might be insignificant. The DSP Factory is capable of 16 bit or 32 bit internal processing. Cakewalk processes 16 bit or 24 bit. Therefore with CW you are limited to 16 bit internal processing. I think I got that info from the Yamaha FAQ board. Note: The DSP Factory A/D convertors are 20 bit.
