i have a chance to get one of these for $240. i already have a xp-60 thats fullt expanded. does anyone on this site have the yamaha synth? i mean for $240 that has to be a steal. i know you get what you pay for but i would use it as a controller for my pc based programs (cubase, fruity loops, reason, halion etc etc) and use some of the sounds. does it have FULL midi capability? any info on this synth would be of value....

Yamaha CS1X

I own a csx1 control synthesizer, and if you can get one for that price, you will NOT be dissapointed. You may even wind up using your other synth as a control board instead!! There are several software programs available online as well as a few CS1X sights. I paid $20 for CS1X EDIT, a program that allows you to completely control the synth from your computer.. AWSOME. Now I am able to completely manipulate the USER presets, all 128, as well as load the many patches that are available for free download. This is also a fully functional synth, complete with KNOBS... Very rare! It is FULLY midi capable, and has the pat. Yamaha XG sound fonts. The factory sounds are nice, but the real beauty lies in being able to design your own sounds and save them. As I said it has 128 general midi XG fonts, 128 factory preset, and 128 user programs ( you can EDIT these). The keys are not weighted, but you can control the "FEEL" by setting the velocity curve. I have owned mine for several years, and would not trade it for any other at this time... well, maybe a CS6X!!! If you need any further information, let me know.

im not sure whether you'll like the sounds on it:-0 they're great for the money, but aslong as you dont expect reeally good sounds. the pianos and drums are awful (allthough there are a few good snares). i use it mainly for those cheesey guitar overdriven chord sounds which i tend to use in commercial pop/rnb sometimes.

but it's great for controlling, all the filters are standard enough to use.

for that price, go for it man!
