Finally got my KX working with Cubase, but the keyboard is controlling the software through MIDI notes and not the program buttons on the keyboard. Its kind of problematic to play a line when notes you hit are adding and deleting tracks.

Anyone have experience with this problem? I haven't seen a clear description in any manual about how to solve this problem.

Thanks.

What did you use as a template for the mappings? You should be using the "generic remote" and make all your tweaks there

Thanks for the reply, altitude.

I assume you're meaning in the "Device Setup" menu. I didn't see any options for generic remote map in there. It already had the different control functions laid out in the grid. I might be looking in the wrong spot or misinterpreting something in the menu. I can post a screen shot later when I get back if you'd be able to help.

yeah, do so. that was my canned answer for setting up controls for cubase but that thing looks like it is integrated with cubase so it will be different.. (ignore the generic remote comment)

Alright - screenshots attached. These are from CB4. I don't know why, but when I hooked up the KX25 this time it made me reinstall the midi-usb driver and then restart my laptop. I hope I don't have to do that every time.

These menus look set to me. I am thinking the problem lies in the utility menu on the KX itsself under "progchgmode". I prob have to change that from PC+Remote to just Remote.

Thanks for your help, Altitude.

got to put the kids to bed but ill look at the manual tonight, everything looks as it should though..

Couple of things:

Did you install the KX editor?

Did you use the SELECT buttons to call up “DAW
Select.” and select whichever version of Cubase you are using?

In the second window (device setup) make sure the in and out ports are set to KX1.

let me know if any of that helps..

Altitude - sorry for the delayed reply.

I did install the editor, though I haven't poked around in there at all yet.

In the DAW selection on the KX itself there are two options: CB-AI and just CB. The manual said to select CB4, but there's no options for specific versions other than the AI. I chose CB, but wondered if it needed additional information.

Setting the ports to KX1 is helpful. I'll make that change. Thanks for the thoughts.

AI is only available under C4 so I would interpret that as CB being the full cubase and CB AI would be C4-AI. definitely poke around the editor and look at what is assigned to what

Still no luck. KX Editor doesn't seem to be doing much.

I'm gonna call Steinberg and ask them whats up. Although I don't anticipate them being much help. When I wasn't able to get it to work at all the guy told me it wouldn't work unless I had it running through an interface. Clearly not accurate advice.

Thanks for your help man!

I dont really know what else to tell ya.. A control surface/midi controller program should only send X command when button/fader/key is manipulated. You should be able to see what does what with the programming software and as far as what the host does in relation to those commands should be in the documentation..
