Im thinking of recording the drums and saving input space by putting Y Cables in so I can get two condenser mics of one input but will it make the sound mesh and sound horrid or will it come out well im not looking for million dollar quality just enough to get by.

I'm pretty sure that will cause phasing problems which almost always sounds bad. Add to that the fact that condenser mics require phantom power. If they are battery operated it may be possible, but if line powered, probably not.

I would not recommend it, but you could certainly make it work. Record a bit and listen really hard to see if two sounds are cancelling each other out. If they are, you have to move the mics around.

Do a search here on phasing to learn more about what it is, why it is bad, and how to eliminate.

Quite frankly I think you could get better results with one mic on drums than using two with a splitter.

Search on recording drums, and three mic drums. There is a lot you can do with very few channels if you work hard at it, experiment, and use your ears and head together.

Good luck.

Could he run one cable to an external phase shifter box - provided one exists - and then take the other side of the Y out of that?
