Hello, I want to buy an XLR mic but I want to connect it to my mac. There is a xlr to usb cable (Nady UIC-10) but there's a icicle thing. The icicle looks really ugly in my opinion. So why is the cable both cheaper, smaller size. What should I get?

What type of mic are you trying to hook up? If it's a condenser mic you will need phantom power which I don't think that cable will give you. If you do need phantom power your best bet would be to buy an interface (like the M-audio Mbox, MobilePre, or hundreds of other interfaces) depending on your needs.

Bet lets start with what microphone are you trying to hook up?

Ok for that mic you need phantom power. The Blue Icicle does call itself an interface and does give phantom power to the mic (you have to have phantom power to power the mic). So this will work but I have no idea of the quality, someone else might know more.

The Nady does not offer phantom power so your mic won't work with just that. Your best bet would be looking for a simple, cheap interface.

The next question would be what is your budget and where in the world are you located (this will matter for shipping and availability so what we suggest fits into your budget.
