XLR outs

hello
I noticed my bass head has an XLR out on it. Would it be a good idea to record my bass using this? Or would the high power coming form the amp blow up my recorder? If so, then what is the porpuse of the XLR out? I usually just plug the bass directly in...

Don't worry about blowing anything up using this jack on your amp. But, I am not sure that you will actually like the sound.

So would it be better to Mic the cabinet? Or plug the bass directly into the recorder?

What's better? Try one and the other individually; then combine them... What's better for you?
 
Use a DI box if going straight to the board.
 
Just watch your fader levels, shouldn't blow up anything. I prefer the direct approach. Whatever floats your boat, try them both, you might dig one or the other better.
 
I use the XLR out on my bass head and like the tone better than goin direct into the board. I have a line out level and a pre/post
effects switch that allows me more flexibility. I really like having the choice of using the EQ on my head it gives me kind of a live tone instead of being a processed sound.
