XENYX2442 + UCA200 Troubles

I am using my XENYX2442FX and running it through the UCA200 usb interface it came with and using ableton as the program to run everything through. My problem is that everything is VERY quiet and so nothing is coming out right. I am recording live cuts with guitar, vocals, and drums. all are mic'd with sure mics. Anyone have any ideas? i havent really used a real soundboard before. so i have a funny feeling i have overlooked something.

Any ideas?

The gain ("TRIM") knob? The individual and master faders? The "MAIN" button on the channels you wish to record? The levels on the software? Your monitors?
 
Xenyx2442 with USB

Did you check the Audio Device type in the AUDIO tab of Ableton, is the driver ASIO? You can check to see if it is working by clicking on the Test Tone button You should hear the Test Tone.
Also you might check your "Sound and Audio Device" settings in the Control Panel if you are running on a PC ...there should be "USB Audio Codec" listed in the Hardware tab , make sure that "USB Audio Codec" is selected in the Voice Playback and Voice Recording boxes in both Audio and Voice tabs. Sound scheme should be set to NO Sounds. Make sure Device Volume is not muted in the Volume Tab.

I am running it through a mac computer. I am getting sound. its just not loud at ALL! I think it might be the UCA200 but i am not sure.
 
If you are using cheap microphones make sure the Phantom power switch is off otherwise you will get very little sound, it drops about 90%. Some cheap mics are not earthed properly.

Try a process of elimination to work out where the loss is happening.

1 When you monitor through the Xenyx are you getting a good signal? What are the level indicators doing?

2 Can you monitor the UCA200? (Does it have a headphone socket?) Check the signal here if it has.

3 Check any audio device settings on the mac . . . have these been set low somehow?
 
Inputs and Outputs on the UCA200

Assuming that you have checked the connecting cables and they are firmly seated....where are the Inputs and Outputs of the UAC200 connected to on the 2442?

And as Audio-Man stated, check to see that phantom power is off.

1. I am getting a good signal through the Xenyx, but ableton is not matching the singal i am getting through the XENYX.

2. The UCA200 doesnt have a headphone socket. I am thinking that could be the problem.

3. Do you know of how one might check the audio settings on the mac itself?

The UCA is connected to CD/TAPE via RCA connectors.
 
Connections

Do you have the Source CD/Tape button depressed and Phones/Ctrl Room knob turned up?

I have mine hooked up Sub 1 Out to UAC200 Input...and UAC200 Output to 15/16 Line in ... that's been work pretty well for me so far.

I have turned up the phones room control knob all the way up and i think the source CD/Tape button has been depressed.


I am quite new to analog sound boards, up until this point i have been recording through a usb mic. Could you possibly elaborate a little more on your UCA200 configuration. I feel like I am overlooking some small detail since I have never used a true mixer.:confused:
 
2442 hookups

I really don't know which hook-up method is the best, but this is how I have it set up so I can send the output to mains or monitors or both.

Sub 1 Out to UAC200 Input...and UAC200 Output to 15/16 Line in L & R, when I am recording the Sub 1-2 button is depressed an any channel I have something connected to...sending the mic or instrument signal to the UAC/Computer input. To listen to anything coming from the computer (UAC Output) is connected to the L/R Line in on 15/16, that way I can send the signal to Main Mix and to Sub 3-4 which I can also send to CTRL Room and headphones.
Just have to make sure that Sub 1-2 is never selected on 15/16 (Feedback)

If someone has a better way...I'm all ears!

Do you only use two inputs? can you only use the two inputs with the UCA200? Is this the problem i have been having?
 
Inputs

The UAC200 only has 2 inputs (Left and Right) this then connects to the computer via the USB port.

The mixer is where all the inputs go, these get routed to the UAC200 input. This way I can send any signal to the UAC on the Sub Out 1-2 of the mixer by depressing the 1-2 button on that channel.
