I have someone coming in to my studio with stuff done on a 4 track cassette deck. Ill need four seperate outputs.

Ill imagine a lot of you have one of these in a closet gathering dust.

And to keep you from feeling too guilty, Im not willing to spend alot.:D

Sounds like you're looking for something like a Tascam 424. There's a bunch of 424's and 424 MKII's on eBay right now that look like they'll go for $100 or less. I've got one I started recording on 2 years ago but it's loaned to a friend. The only reason I haven't sold it is for the same reason you said. Plus it's easy to set up for quick scratch tracks at someone elses house. It has four 1/4" outputs in the back like you need. Good luck.

darrin, for just a little more money you could get a minidisc
multi-track. The sound quality would be superior, and the
minidiscs are reusable.

Chris

P.S. Still love my Tascam 244 though-no it's not for sale!

Why not have the guy bring the 4 track with him to your place? That's why they call them Portastudio's :D You could get a SM58 or SM57 mic for what you'd pay for a used 4 track. Unless of course you already have enough mics (does anyone?). Keep in mind too, since the 4 track is cassette, another 4 track might not run at the precise ( ) same speed as the one he recorded on. Most of these things have a variable speed control that might not be the same speed (at the detent spot) as another unit. Might or might not be a problem.

The artist is dead, and the widow wants it on a cd, I used a loaner to do it and dumped it into Vegas two tracks at a time and outputed the four tracks to my DAW. But for future stuff I may still be interested.

The one I rented was $100 new.
