Would you pay 5K for this synth?

WOW!
I'd have to hear it, but a synth in 5.1!
I'm not sure how all those new controls will effect the sound, but they sure do make it sound good!

There are plenty of synths out there that are no where near as cool as that sounds that are or were 5k or more.

I'm gonna start saving money now...

ahhh whaaaatttt??? it's gonna ditch the sample and keep a model structure instead... that's pretty insane, but imagine the perspective... daaaiiiuuuummmm...

Ya know...

I've been wondering about this board for about a year or so. Still waiting for the audio samples on the site.
<sigh>

We'll see, eh?

Yeah, I'm waiting on the samples as well. But mind you in theory Kyma can do everything that Neuron does including 5.1, except no hands on approach. I talked to couple people who heard it at the NAMM show - they say it was the hottest booth out of all of them. And the sounds were very sick, ideal for Sci Fi movies. As we speak there is only one of these - a prototype, but I think they should come out by the end of the year.

i've had a few samples up in the hip hop forum, but i don't like doing it very much... i don't like listening to other peoples stuff... what if i someday thought i made this killer track and i find out half of the inspiration comes from a choon i've heard on this board...

But this is not your typical synth that you can go into a local store and check out how it sounds. If we hear the samples - we can at least get an idea of what it can do. I just got a demo CD from Kyma last week, that thing is deep, hell just the morphing feature is sick.

ah, sorry.. those kind of samples... i'm drunk...

Me too, Chriss...

I feel you on peeping other cats shit though, too. I've only done it twice, and both times it was, well nevermind...

Now about that Neuron...

yeah.......
... can i borrow 5 grand??? i promise you'll get them back... honest

I'm waiting for my Kyma CD, too. I think the loot I was gonna poorly justify for buying a sunsyn would be way better spent on something else...

And can't you have hands on control with a Kyma via a motor mix?

I wonder if the Neuron can hit the brickwall re: stuff you can do due to processor limitations. Not exactly a problem with a Kyma system... Maybe I'm missing something. Besides that, it looks like Kyma can keep evolving in a way the Neuron won't be able to, or am I missing something there, too?

Oh, and Chriss, when you find a shop that accepts monopoly money, i'll give you all the loot you want, friend.

BTW - have any of you guys spent any significant time with Absynth? I know it's a beast of a different burden, but i'm finding that it's quite the cat's ass...

absynth bug

I've got absynth, and it IS really cool. But unfortunately, there is some conflict with certain hardware setups (NI tells me) that makes certain parameter windows not show up. Most importantly, the window that your supposed to get after generating "AR pulse". So if I generate pulse, I cant do anything else to the envelopes. So basically I and anyone else that experience this problem are screwed til ver 1.3.3 comes out. So I'm still waiting....

Motormix can only do so much, plus it's so tiny, you'd feel like a surgeon. I wonder if Kyma is going to support HUI or Radikal any time soon.

When it's time to teach my kids about sound design and such, then i may seriously look at a Kyma system. I mistakenly thought I'd be better suited to have a basic Kyma system instead of a sunsyn, but I was wrong. I just heard more of it and after a year or two (or more???) of aching to own this thing, I can finally get one in the near future. I'll pass on that Karma I wanted, and see if santa will hook me up with the other 1500 or so to pick up another Kyma goody (get it? "Kyma" goody? You know, like "kinda goody?" Sorry. Blame it on those 22s again...) Maybe by then the Karma software will be available as a standalone app/plug-in anyway. That how I'd really like to own one of those. I'll have to wait until the Neuron hits the streets before I can even pretend to consider it. I heard it wasn't even at the last NAMM, still about 2 months away from even that kind of serious introduction. Maybe I should move back to Germany...

I do think Kyma is a helluva groovy tool though, problem is, I spend all my "extra" cheese on kicks to ball in and vinyl... And I'm sure the CD is all balls to the wall, too. B-boys and synths. It just don't make no sense...
