Don't get me wrong, my LP Custom has given me nothing short of spectacular service for 35 years without a single hitch, but this crap makes me cringe:

For ~$5k:

Gibson Custom Ace Frehley Les Paul Custom V.O.S. Electric Guitar: Shop Guitars & Other Musical Instruments | Musician's Friend

. . . but for an additional $8K, you can add faithfully reproduced wear and cosmetic damage from somebody else's playing:

Gibson Custom Ace Frehley Les Paul Custom Hand-Aged & Signed Electric Guitar: Shop Guitars & Other Musical Instruments | Musician's Friend

Is it time to start eating the rich?

8^?

I wouldn't pay the money for either one of them. True vintage and guitars with a famous provenance are investments. These will not appreciate in value one dollar. People that buy these are either fools or just have money to burn and enjoy burning it.

No but if I had money to burn I would buy one of the Clapton or ZZTOP versions - and I would play them.

Not even if I had all the money in the world. but I have plans to get one of these with in the next few years :P

Gibson SJ-200 EC Acoustic-Electric Guitar: Shop Guitars & Other Musical Instruments | Musician's Friend

Nice! I'm not up on Gibson acoustics - I know they're not cheap. Is there a used market on those? What are they fetching? I have several pricey electric Gibbys. Bought used every time and saved a lot. The only brandy-new Gibson I bought was a returned SG for $650 - not high end. My Lesters and ES-359 are three times that.

I looked on ebay and saw one for maybe 500 to 1000 less than the original price. There are a lot of good guitars and brands etc. but something about the SJ-200 EC that makes me think it'll be the first and last high end acoustic I'll have to buy. As long as it doesn't get stolen or broken of course. Just watch a few good quality videos on you tube of the SJ 200 and you'll get an idea of why I want one lol. Just something about that big harmonically rich sound that I love. I can see myself camping at the lake and really enjoying that guitar with a few cold beers and some meat smoking on the grill :D

lol no. $5k can get you a custom guitar to your spec and even allows you to choose some options you wouldn't find on your run of the mill axe (like birds eye maple fingerboards, custom inlays etc...).

I'll never own a Gibson.

I'll never own a Gibson.

I'll never say never...but they are definitely not on my list of buys or even dream guitars. Now if I won one or was given one, that'd be a different story, and I'd be tempted to sell it to get money for a different guitar or amp.

No.

I'm a big fan of Ace's playing... but this kind of stuff is just to wring more money out of Kiss fans.

I'm wondering why it costs more than twice as much to make an over priced guitar shittier?

Nothing like trying to buy mojo.

You're paying for a name. You're paying for a logo. You're paying for a status symbol.

That signature on that head stock does NOT make for a better instrument, it does NOT make you play better, it does NOT justify its ridiculous price tag.

It's one thing to find a really good instrument that's constructed perfectly, sounds great, and resonates just right. That's worth paying good cash for a good instrument.

But that guitar could have a horrible sound, the neck feel awkward, the sustain nonexistant, the tone weak, the instrument not worth playing at all. But they put a famous guy's signature on it, and it's worth THOUSANDS just for the name.

It's sad.
