Would you buy a guitar you haven't played?

Hey John,
Are you happy with the Carvin bass? I've been considering a tricked-out 6 string for a while but I'm concerned about the quality control. Any advise?
Mike

Ebay is OK

I just bought a Hamer Echotone off Ebay. It was from music dealer in Arkansas. It was packed nicely and arrived without a scratch. I played other Echotones at Guitar Center locally, so I knew what they played like. It does need an intonation adjustment however - but that's it.

About a year ago I bought a used Tascam from a pawn shop on ebay. It didn't work when I got it - they refunded my money AND paid for return shipping!

Both of these firms had good ebay ratings - I'd suggest looking at those before you spend any real money...

Hey, 6string: I've got kids in college and yadda yadda yadda so I don't buy guitars just every day. A buddy had a Carvin LB90 (discontinued 4-string) he bought in '87, and THIS YEAR I was finally able to get my own Carvin (bass isn't my primary instrument, and I already have a Jazz). I love it. It is meticulously put together, and that has been my observation with the LB90 and a DC-127 the same guy bought a couple of years ago. It sounds great, has great action, and cost under $700 with a mahogany neck & body & a hard case. oh yeah--the mahogany option is real light, too. It'll probably be the last bass I buy. (I primarily play a Les Paul DeLuxe and a round-neck Dobro.)
good luck with 'em
John

BUYING GUITAR ON LINE

NOT ON YOUR LIFE. I SPENT TO MUCH TIME IN A MUSIC STORE THAT A FRIEND OF MINE OWNED. WE SENT ALOT OF GUITARS BACK THAT WERE SUPPOSE TO BE TOP OF THE LINE. I PLAYED A $5000 GIBSON ONE TIME THAT WAS A LET DOWN.

a tight election

We have:

9 Outright negatives plus bad experiences
7 Affirmatives (mostly due to decent experiences)
4 Dimple chads or "depends"

There's no question it's a definite risk, but if we separate the negative recommendations from those with first-hand bad experiences, the scale tips the other way. Is there a Supreme Court on this forum?

If we let Florida count the votes, the clear winner is....
Pepsi!!

I just bought a G&L Legacy from Indoor Storm online. I knew that b/c it's a G&L it will be a good guitar, and if not, I can return it. It turned out to be an EXCELLENT guitar, and no one locally could beat the price.

I'd buy a top-notch axe like G&L, PRS, Ric, etc. online after playing similar guitars in stores, but nothing less.

U cant count my yes vote twice!

OHHHHHHHHH YES!
I have bought three guitars online from MUSICIANS FRIEND!
An they have been great guitars. I did however go to a local store and look at the instrument first, and compared it to identical models to see how much variation there was in the manufacturing.
On happens to be a Squire jagmaster that I love to death.
So you can count my vote for PEPSI!?!?!? Wait....
Women dont have to be tryed before you buy, same goes for guitars. But looking dont hurt right?

Online guitar buying

I have bought one guitar and 3 basses online and only was almost stung once. I bought a used hofner copy for $200 (ebay). It showed up with a warped neck. The people who sold it to me "said" it wasn't warped when it was sent. I filed a claim with ups and got my money back. Always insure you package. I will buy online again.
