Yo Mack:
The 4416 is a more complicted box; however, if you are computer savvy it is not impossible. The early 4416's were not equipped like the 2816, which I have; however, Yamaha quickly came out and offered downloads.
Some folks don't like the lack of faders on the 2816; but, I seldom use more than 8 tracks anyway; however, it's nice to have 16 tracks with or without total faders.
The sound quality is excellent on the 2816 and I suppose just as good on the 4416.
The newer spin-off AW or AG16 has the CDRW burner, as does the 2816. I suppose you can buy a burner but I like the idea that everything I need to do a CD is right there in one box and, of course, all in the digital mode.
If you can get a demo on the unit you are looking at, or see one in action, that might help you decide.
Prices are falling on both the 2816 and 4416 but probably more on the 4416 since it was first and there may be many older models out there.
Whatever box you get, the sound will be good. The learning curve is something else depending on your knowledge and experience.
